Call the Midwife<\/em><\/a> star Stephen McGann<\/a> has promised \u201cso much change is coming\u201d for the hit PBS period drama, which is set to return for a 15th season in 2026, along with a movie and prequel series.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/em><\/a> at the National Television Awards on Wednesday (September 10), McGann, who plays Dr. Patrick Turner on the popular British drama, teased what\u2019s on the horizon, saying, \u201cThere is just so much change coming.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cWhat you\u2019ve seen in Call the Midwife<\/em> in the last year or two is people coming, whispers of change, it\u2019s kind of like, without saying any spoilers, it does get real. There\u2019s some stuff that is coming over the hill that is really real.\u201d<\/p>\n McGann said the cast has been reading the new scripts for Season 15, and while there are lots of \u201cclassic Call the Midwife<\/em>\u201d moments, there are also some unexpected emotional events, including one script that he admitted left the cast \u201creeling.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this year, unsubstantiated rumors spread<\/a> that Call the Midwife<\/em> would be calling it a day after its 15th season. The BBC, the show\u2019s U.K. broadcaster, quickly shot down those reports, confirming the show \u201cisn\u2019t going anywhere\u201d and that a 16th season would arrive \u201cin due course.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition, fans can expect two more upcoming Christmas specials, which will be set in both Poplar and Hong Kong, a movie set in an overseas location in 1972, and a prequel series set in the East End of London during World War II.<\/p>\n \u201cAs you know, we\u2019ve done travelling,\u201d McGann told the RadioTimes<\/em> about the show\u2019s future plans. \u201cThings are going to be not the same as they were, but they\u2019re going to continue in a different vein, so who knows? We\u2019re the last to find out.\u201d<\/p>\n Fellow Call the Midwife<\/em> star Cliff Parisi<\/a>, who plays Fred Buckle, also spoke to the press at the National Television Awards, where he said the series is \u201cthe best show\u201d he\u2019s \u201cever worked on\u201d in his 45 years in the industry.<\/p>\n \u201cMost of the shows I\u2019ve been in I was in for 10 years. This is the best show,\u201d he shared, per DigitalSpy<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt is the best writing, the best cast, the best production, and the loveliest bunch of people you can ever hope for.\u201d<\/p>\n
