New content and episodes<\/a> of fan-favorite shows are streaming on our small screens, but it\u2019s also time to look back at the year of television that was.<\/p>\n The 77th Emmy Awards will be presented on Sunday, and while most eyes will be watching to see who goes home with television\u2019s top prize,<\/a> let\u2019s not overlook the interesting subplots.<\/p>\n Here are some storylines to watch for at Sunday\u2019s Emmy ceremony.<\/p>\n The supporting actor and actress categories in drama are absolutely stacked this year \u2013 mostly from just a few shows. The supporting actor drama series race is distinctive in that it has three nominees from \u201cSeverance\u201d \u2013 Trammell Tillman, Zach Cherry and John Turturro \u2013 competing against three from \u201cThe White Lotus,\u201d namely Sam Rockwell, Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs<\/a>. The odd man out is James Marsden, who is nominated for \u201cParadise.\u201d<\/p>\n The best supporting actress in drama category includes four nominees from \u201cLotus\u201d \u2013 Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood and Natasha Rothwell. Rothwell told celebrity.land<\/a> last month that the competition \u201ccouldn\u2019t be more friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n Natasha Rothwell in “The White Lotus” Season 3, episode 3. – Fabio Lovino\/HBO<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, I\u2019m rooting for them always, even before I knew them through the show,\u201d she said of her costars in contention. \u201cI am just a fan of their work. And so it\u2019s just a joy to be able to go to Hollywood prom with them and celebrate!\u201d<\/p>\n At the Creative Emmy Awards last weekend<\/a>, the guest actor in a comedy series race featured no less than five actors from \u201cThe Studio,\u201d including Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Dave Franco, who all played themselves in the Hollywood satire. They, along with Jon Bernthal of \u201cThe Bear,\u201d lost out to Bryan Cranston, also of \u201cThe Studio,\u201d who played an uproarious top media exec. The guest actress in a drama series had three nominees from \u201cSeverance,\u201d with Merritt Wever winning the trophy.<\/p>\n Comedian Nate Bargatze, who is a first-time host of the Emmys this year, told celebrity.land\u2019s Elizabeth Wagmeister he has an inspired plan to keep the show – and acceptance speeches – running on time. He plans to donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America at the top of the show, but there\u2019s a catch.<\/p>\n \u201cAs always, everyone gets 45 seconds to make their speech. For every second they go over, the kids will get $1,000 less. And the kids will be there. And see it. And feel it. So is thanking your second manager worth taking food from a child?\u201d Bargatze said. \u201cI don\u2019t think so, but we\u2019ll see what Hollywood thinks.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a show, you gotta get moving,\u201d Bargatze told celebrity.land of his thinking behind the plot, later urging winners to recognize some of the people they need to thank on social media as opposed to on stage.<\/p>\n It does go both ways, though, since winners who end their thank you\u2019s under the allotted time will cause money to be added back to the pot. \u201cIt is very serious. The amount of money I give to the Boys and Girls Club is totally up to all of Hollywood,\u201d he said of the ultimate total the charity will receive.<\/p>\n While Katy Bates<\/a> has already won two Emmys \u2013 one in 2012 for a guest role on \u201cTwo and a Half Men\u201d and another in 2014 for her gonzo performance as Madame Delphine LaLaurie in \u201cAmerican Horror Story: Coven\u201d \u2013 at 77, she could become the eldest performer to win the Emmy for best actress in a drama. Bates is nominated for her work \u201cMatlock.\u201d She was previously nominated in the same category in 2011 and 2012 for \u201cHarry\u2019s Law.\u201d<\/p>\n Regardless of whether she wins on Sunday, what Bates really needs is a Grammy \u2013 with an Oscar (for 1990\u2019s \u201cMisery\u201d) and a Tony Award (for \u201c\u2019night, Mother\u201d in 1983) already secured, she\u2019s only a G away from an EGOT.<\/a><\/p>\n Although he\u2019s a veteran A-list actor, most of Harrison Ford\u2019s work has been in film.<\/p>\n Harrison Ford and Jason Segel in “Shrinking.” – Beth Dubber\/Apple TV+<\/p>\n Now, he\u2019s an Emmy nominee for his work in \u201cShrinking,\u201d and joins an impressive group of other first-time Emmy nominees that includes Javier Bardem, JK Simmons, Zo\u00eb Kravitz, Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Ike Barinholtz, Ruth Negga, Colin Farrell, Chlo\u00eb Sevigny and Jake Gyllenhaal.<\/p>\nFriendly, but fierce, costar competition<\/h3>\n
