Sig Hansen<\/a>\u2018s health issues<\/a> have been in the spotlight during recent seasons of Deadliest Catch<\/a><\/em>. The fisherman had a heart attack in 2016, then another \u201cslight heart attack\u201d in 2018.<\/p>\n Sig has been married to his wife<\/a>, June Hansen, for more than 20 years, and she\u2019s dealt with her own share of medical problems. Sig revealed June\u2019s cancer diagnosis in 2019, and finally gave an update ahead of the show\u2019s 21st season in August.<\/p>\n Scroll down for everything to know about what happened to June.<\/p>\n Sig revealed June\u2019s diagnosis on Season 15 of\u00a0Deadliest Catch<\/em>. \u201cIt sounds like my wife has a form of cancer,\u201d he shared at the time. \u201cWe do know that this area on her neck is cancer, we just don\u2019t know if there\u2019s more.\u201d<\/p>\n Around the same time, June walked the red carpet alongside her husband at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n In August 2025, Sig told Parade<\/a> that June is \u201csolvent,\u201d noting that she \u201cdid have potential cancer, but we got through that.\u201d He also confirmed that his wife is now \u201cvery cautious of her health\u201d and \u201cworking out every day.\u201d Her favorite form of exercise? Swimming in their pool!<\/p>\n Now that Sig and June have both gotten through some scary medical problems, he\u2019s starting to think about slowing down so they can spend more time together. \u201cShe\u2019s tougher than she looks, and she is very supportive. But at the end of the day, I want to spend more time with her. I feel like she\u2019s given so much to me. When you go to sea, when I was younger, we were gone for oh, my God, sometimes six months at a stretch, sometimes eight to ten months out of a year. And so it\u2019s time to pay back.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cMaybe that\u2019s just old age, I don\u2019t know. But I feel like I owe her so much, and I don\u2019t know how to repay her.\u201d<\/p>\n Sig and June are parents to daughters Mandy Hansen<\/a> and Nina Hansen, both of whom they adopted. Through their daughters, they have four grandchildren.<\/p>\n Additionally, Sig has a daughter, Melissa Eckstrom, from his first marriage to Lisa Eckstrom. The two have a complicated relationship, as Melissa previously accused her dad of sexually abusing her when she was a child, per The Seattle Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n There were no criminal charges brought against Sig, and he denied the claims.
