\u201cI\u2019m in a restaurant called Columbus, and this is back … in the early \u201980s,\u201d Douglas said on Wednesday during an appearance on \u201cThe Drew Barrymore Show.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt was this real hot restaurant \u2015 the hot spot up in the Upper West Side on Columbus Avenue,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd we\u2019re heading there one night, and this waitress comes over to serve me, and it\u2019s this 11-year-old young lady here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Douglas, who said he thought Barrymore was at least 14 at the time, recalled her saying, \u201c\u2018Hi, can I help you please?\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAnd I said, \u2018Well, is it past your bedtime?\u2019\u201d Douglas said, adding that the youngster was \u201cincredible.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Barrymore corroborated the anecdote and said that when she was younger, she \u201cdidn\u2019t really have family.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI was out running around, waitressing and clubbing \u2015 working,\u201d she explained. \u201cHaving the best time ever, by the way. Best time. But then you get older and you\u2019re like, \u2018What life am I looking to build and be a part of?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAnd for me, family wasn\u2019t necessarily there and around, but now I realize it\u2019s my everything,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Barrymore was thrust into the public eye at just 11 months old<\/a> when she did her first commercial.
