\u201cEllen said, \u2018I don\u2019t know, Rosie. We\u2019re not friends.\u2019 And that was like one of the most painful things that ever happened to me in show business in my life,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Donnell \u2014 who left her talk show after six seasons to spend time with her children \u2014 said she knew DeGeneres for three decades and had photos of her holding her newborn children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Donnell revealed that she was only asked to go on DeGeneres\u2019 talk show \u2014 which shared the same staff and producer as her old show \u2014 \u201clong after\u201d it began.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI did think she was all of a sudden in the position I was in, where she was starting a show and wanted it to be successful and get the money and the accolades that came with it,\u201d the comedian said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cAnd instead of deciding to stand next to me and hold my hand, which is what I did to her, she did the opposite and I couldn\u2019t believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Donnell comments arrived as she looked back on DeGeneres\u2019 sitcom character coming out as a lesbian in 1997, a moment that she described as igniting questions over whether she was gay, too.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Donnell recalled having DeGeneres on her talk show several months beforehand, adding that she \u201cfelt strongly\u201d that she didn\u2019t want to leave her \u201cout there alone\u201d and refused to pretend that she wasn\u2019t a lesbian, as well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Donnell noted that she agreed with DeGeneres to discuss her character becoming \u201cLebanese<\/a>,\u201d coded language she used to reply that she might be \u201cLebanese,\u201d too.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cEveryone who was gay at home got it because I wouldn\u2019t leave her out there alone, I couldn\u2019t do it,\u201d said O\u2019Donnell, who came out as a lesbian in 2002.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The comedian said she felt the moment DeGeneres came out could really threaten the success of her Emmy-winning show but her \u201cinternal clock\u201d wouldn\u2019t allow her to distance herself from her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
