HBO renewed the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action drama series for its third installment in April 2025, a few days before the second season premiere.<\/p>\n\u201cWe had started talking about what is left to adapt back when we were working on Season 2, because we knew we would not be able to finish it, and we were gonna end on a cliffhanger,\u201d Druckmann said.<\/p>\n
He then proceeded to explain that his job is \u201cnow is to stay very high level,\u201d adding, \u201cAs much as I miss getting into the weeds and working on the effects shots and giving script notes and really getting into the details of it, I\u2019m trying to just shepherd it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Druckmann expressed his hope that the upcoming season would be as faithful to the source material as Season 1 and noted his belief that the best way he can contribute to Season 3 is to ensure that happens.<\/p>\n
He continued, \u201cBecause I feel like that is the gold standard for this kind of adaptation, while enjoying all these beautiful expansions that happen naturally with the rest of the team and how they\u2019re working on Season 3.\u201d<\/p>\n
Craig Mazin, who co-created The Last of Us with Druckmann, remains attached to the series as showrunner. Season 3 is likely to debut on HBO sometime in 2027.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
