It\u2019s a strange twist when art imitates life, because no one expected what usually happens in a horror movie<\/a> to take place in the real world.<\/p>\n The latest installment of \u201cThe Conjuring\u201d movie franchise, \u201cThe Conjuring: Last Rites,\u201d paid tribute to Dan Rivera<\/a>, the paranormal investigator who died after an event that featured the real Annabelle doll<\/a>, which is featured in the films. <\/p>\n As previously reported, Rivera \u2014 who worked with the New England Society of Psychic Research (NESPR) for over a decade as a senior lead investigator \u2014 died on July 13 while on the \u201cDevils On the Run\u201d tour in Gettysburg, where the doll was on display.<\/p>\n The 54-year-old was discovered <\/a> at a hotel where the tour was being held.<\/p>\n \u201cThe decedent was discovered in his hotel room by workers,\u201d the police said, per Us Weekly. \u201cNothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Francis Dutrow, Adams County coroner, Rivera\u2019s autopsy is complete. <\/p>\n Earlier this week, his cause of death<\/a> was revealed to be cardiac-related and was ruled as natural. <\/p>\n \u201cMr. Rivera had a known history of cardiac issues, which were consistent with the findings. It is also confirmed that Annabelle was not present in the room at the time of his passing,\u201d the coroner said. <\/p>\n In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, Michael Chaves, the director of \u201cThe Conjuring: The Last Rites,\u201d which opened in theaters on Friday, called Rivera\u2019s death \u201ctragic\u201d and a \u201ccurveball.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cThe poor guy,\u201d Chaves said. \u201cWe wanted to just handle it as respectfully as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n He also added that everyone involved in the film discussed how the tribute should be handled.
