Jamie Foxx<\/a> stars as an Olympic boxing coach in a new movie setting up production in New Jersey.<\/p>\n \u201cFight for \u201984<\/a>\u2033 is based on the real story of the 1984 United States Olympic boxing team.<\/p>\n The Netflix film, which Foxx is producing, is currently casting local background actors (see details below).<\/p>\n The movie tells the story of how the boxing program was rebuilt after 14 boxers<\/a> and eight staff members<\/a> from the U.S. amateur boxing team were killed in a 1980 plane crash<\/a> while traveling from New York to competitions in Poland.<\/p>\n Four years later, the new Olympic team won 11 medals \u2014 nine of them gold<\/a> \u2014 at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles<\/a>, setting a new record.<\/p>\n (That year, Cuba and the Soviet Union had boycotted the Olympics<\/a> after the U.S. boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics because of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.)<\/p>\n Of course, Foxx is no stranger to the ring.<\/p>\n The actor, who won an Oscar in 2005 for his performance as Ray Charles<\/a> in \u201cRay<\/a>,\u201d played Muhammad Ali\u2019s trainer, Drew Bundini Brown<\/a>, opposite Will Smith<\/a> in Michael Mann\u2019s \u201cAli<\/a>” (2001). And he played boxing trainer Hassan El Ruk\u2019n in Reginald Hudlin\u2019s \u201cThe Great White Hype<\/a>\u201d (1996).<\/p>\n Foxx is also set to star as Mike Tyson<\/a> in the upcoming series \u201cTyson<\/a>,\u201d originally planned as a biopic.<\/p>\n
