Talk show host Whoopi Goldberg has admitted that while the idea of retirement sounds appealing, it’s not financially feasible for her right now.<\/p>\n
The 69-year-old comedian has been a staple on The View<\/em> since 2007, but with her 70th birthday approaching in November, she says she\u2019s not planning to step away any time soon.<\/p>\n In an interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> on Tuesday, September 9, Goldberg was asked if she had thought about “slowing down,” to which she responded, “Yeah, but who can afford to do that? You know if you don\u2019t marry well, you gotta keep working.\u201d<\/p>\n The interviewer then went on to suggest that perhaps the Oscar winner could afford to step away from her daytime talk show gig.<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Not yet,\u201d Goldberg responded, later adding, “I gotta keep paying those bills, baby.”<\/p>\n During the interview, Goldberg’s cohost Joy Behar also gave her thoughts on whether or not retirement was in her future.<\/p>\n \u201cCreative people don\u2019t retire, they don\u2019t resign, they just keep going,\u201d said Behar, 82.<\/p>\n This most recent Entertainment Tonight<\/em> interview isn’t the first time that Goldberg has been candid about continuing to work out of financial necessity.<\/p>\n Last year, she stirred up some controversy after telling her cohosts, \u201cI work for a living… If I had all the money in the world, I wouldn\u2019t be here, OK? I\u2019m a working person, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n While her current salary on The View<\/em> hasn\u2019t been confirmed, Variety<\/em><\/a> reported in 2016 that she signed a new contract worth between $5 million and $6 million.<\/p>\n Goldberg and Behar kicked off season 29 of The View<\/em> on Monday, September 8, rejoining the panel with fellow cohosts Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.
