Paul Burrell<\/strong>, who worked for then-Prince Charles<\/strong> and Princess Diana<\/strong> for a decade, is sharing a bizarre memory from his time in royal service. In his new book, The Royal Insider: My Life with the Queen, the King and Princess Diana<\/em><\/a>, the former butler recalls the moment he found Charles on the floor in a silk dressing gown covered in salad dressing.<\/p>\n Burrell, 67, told The Mirror<\/em><\/a> that the incident occurred during Charles\u2019 marriage to Diana<\/a>, which lasted from 1981 until their 1996 divorce. \u201cHe tried to make an excuse and say, \u2018Well, I\u2019m terribly sorry. I seem to have caught my sleeve on the card table and up it went.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, I knew that wasn\u2019t the real truth,\u201d Burrell explained. \u201cThat was his way of saying, \u2018I\u2019m so embarrassed about what\u2019s happening and what\u2019s happened to this, this beautiful dinner, which you\u2019ve set out for me. I don\u2019t know any other way to explain it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n According to Burrell, the reality was that Charles and Diana had been fighting, and Diana had upended the card table before storming upstairs.<\/p>\n \u201cThe true story is that they had an almighty row,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe rows happened on most weekends they were together\u2014plate-smashing arguments, storming out of rooms, both by both the Prince and the Princess.\u201d<\/p>\n
