As the guitar player for Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page<\/strong> famously worked alongside “Golden God” Robert Plant<\/strong>, widely considered to be one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. But Plant wasn’t the only gifted singer Page had the pleasure of working with…including one he praised as “brilliant” and “note perfect.”<\/p>\n It all started when Led Zeppelin’s record label Swan Song signed Bad Company (featuring singer Paul Rodgers<\/strong>) as their first act. While their partnership at that point was mostly a business one, years later \u2014 following the dissolution of both Led Zeppelin and Bad Company \u2014 Page and Rodgers formed a supergroup called The Firm.<\/p>\n As Page later explained, he’d been wanting to work with Rodgers for some time by that point.<\/p>\n “I tried to get together with Paul earlier, but it was difficult because he was doing a solo LP. But when the ARMS charity shows came up in America, Paul came with us.\u00a0Stevie Winwood<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 who sang in London \u2013 had pulled out,” Page told Creem (per Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>).<\/p>\n “So we went to the States and had a very good tour, singing songs like ‘Bird on the Wing,’ which we did on the album,” Page continued, going on to rave about Rodger’s talent.<\/p>\n “At the end of the tour, I asked if he fancied carrying on and doing something else, because I really love his singing. He’s such a brilliant singer. If I do a guitar solo, I have to warm up and do three takes. He does it in one take \u2013 note perfect. No problem! He’s an amazing man,” he said.<\/p>\n After the death of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham<\/strong>, Page allegedly didn’t pick up the guitar for two years. But as Rodgers explained in an interview with Howard Stern<\/strong>, that changed when he decided to go out on a limb with the iconic guitarist.<\/p>\n As Rodgers explained, after Page visited him one night, \u201call the people that were around him, his roadie, his driver, and everybody, just said, \u2018Whatever you do, don\u2019t ask him to play guitar.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSo, as soon as we got to the studio, I said, \u2018Hi Jimmy, did you bring your guitar?\u2019\u201d Rodgers added. \u201c\u2018Let\u2019s have a jam.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Rodgers and Page went on to make music together for the rest of the evening, Rodgers said, explaining, \u201cthe best way for anybody to bring them out of a depression like that, a deep mourning, is to do the thing you love.\u201d<\/p>\n The Firm released their self-titled debut in 1985, five years after Bonham’s death.
