Country legend Vince Gill <\/a>has just given fans a little more of a great thing.<\/p>\n 30 years ago, the 22-time Grammy winner gave the world the gift of “Go Rest High On That Mountain<\/a>,” a gorgeous song he wrote in memory of his late brother, Bob. The track won both CMA and Grammy awards and climbed all the way up to No. 14 on the charts.\u00a0<\/p>\n Everyone loved the song, but Gill<\/a> felt it was unfinished in some way. While he started writing the original tune back in 1989, after the death of country great Keith Whitley, Gill kept tinkering with it. However,\u00a0 he had other songs to write and a life to live, and set aside finishing the song until after his brother Bob\u2019s death in 1993, which he eventually released to great acclaim.<\/p>\n Despite the track\u2019s success, Gill still wasn\u2019t quite happy with it. \u201cIn all these years of singing that song, truthfully it felt just the slightest bit incomplete to me, I always thought it needed to tie itself up in some way,\u201d he said, according to The Boot<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n He kept working on the track, eventually adding a powerful new verse for those grieving a loved one. The new verse includes the lines: “You\u2019re safely home in the arms of Jesus \/ Eternal life, my brother\u2019s found \/ The day will come I know I\u2019ll see him \/ In that sacred place, on that holy ground.”<\/p>\n He debuted the song\u2019s new verse during a performance at the Ryman in 2019. However, he never recorded the new verse, only sharing it with fans in live performances.<\/p>\n Now, to mark the song\u2019s 30th anniversary, he has released an extended version of \u201cGo Rest High On That Mountain<\/a>\u201d with the addition of the third verse, finally giving fans more of the classic song.<\/p>\n
