FBI<\/a> Director Kash Patel<\/a> is getting low marks for his handling<\/a> of the Charlie Kirk murder<\/a> investigation, and a remark he made about the far-right activist is raising eyebrows from many people on social media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During a Friday press conference that took place after Kirk\u2019s suspected killer was arrested, Patel sent a goodbye message that bordered on the bizarre.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cTo my friend Charlie Kirk: Rest now, brother, we have the watch, and I\u2019ll see you in Valhalla,\u201d Patel said, referring to a realm featured in Norse mythology.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The reference seemed strange to many because, as RawStory noted,<\/a> Patel was raised Hindu and Kirk was an evangelical Christian, leading one person to remark, \u201cWhat kind of Marvel<\/a> Cinematic Universe government do we have right now?\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Economic Times noted<\/a> that Patel\u2019s goodbye note to Kirk combines two longstanding military farewells: \u201cWe have the watch\u201d is part of a Navy retirement tradition, while the Marines use \u201cUntil Valhalla\u201d to honor fallen comrades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, neither Patel nor Kirk served in the military.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

White supremacists also have adopted some symbols of Norse mythology, according to a 2020 report from the University of Alberta.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In fact, the person who attacked two mosques<\/a> in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019 said, \u201cI will see you all in Valhalla,\u201d in a farewell note.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Valhalla is literally a mythological, metaphorical place.<\/p>\n

And yet Kash chose it as his closing line.<\/p>\n
