Ego Nwodim<\/a> has surprised Saturday Night Live<\/a><\/em> fans with the news of her leaving the series.<\/p>\n Known for her characters \u201cLisa from Temecula\u201d and \u201cMiss Eggy,\u201d Nwodim announced her departure from SNL<\/em> on social media. She wrote in part, \u201cThe hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAfter seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL,\u201d she wrote in part, also thanking producer Lorne Michaels, SNL<\/em> writers and crew, and her castmates.<\/p>\n \u201cWeek after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always.\u201d<\/p>\n Her former castmates, including Cecily Strong and Punkie Johnson (who had also previously left the series), wrote in her Instagram comments about how proud they are of Nwodim.<\/p>\n Strong said in part, \u201c[I]t was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson wrote (in all caps in the comments), \u201cYou did your duty EZ\u2026Welcome back to outside \u2026 We havin a time. Lets play.\u201d<\/p>\n This Is Us <\/em>star Chrissy Metz also congratulated her on embarking on a new chapter, writing, \u201cSo happy the world got to see you shine in that medium!\u201d<\/p>\n According to Variety<\/a> and Deadline<\/a>, Nwodim started on SNL<\/em> in 2018 as a featured player in Season 44. By Season 46, she became a main cast member until her departure in Season 50. Both trade publications noted that Nwodim\u2019s exit came after the cast plans for the new season were set.<\/p>\n Variety reported, \u201cNews of Nwodim\u2019s departure comes after thorough shake-up at the late-night sketch show that was previously believed to have concluded, though Variety<\/em> has learned that circumstances changed for Nwodim after the final announcements were made, causing her to choose to pursue other opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n Nwodim is the latest departure in what fans have called an exodus of popular SNL<\/em> cast members leaving the series.
