White, a professional snowboarder and three-time Olympic gold medalist, and Dobrev, an actor best known for her portrayal of Elena Gilbert on \u201cThe Vampire Diaries<\/a>,\u201d have ended their engagement and romantic relationship, People reported<\/a> Thursday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Though details on the split are scarce, People cites a source close to the couple who said \u201cit was a mutual decision, and wasn\u2019t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Representatives for White and Dobrev did not immediately respond to celebrity.land\u2019s requests for comment. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The news came as a surprise to many fans, given that White and Dobrev were photographed<\/a> walking hand in hand Aug. 31 in Los Angeles. Dobrev also included a photo of herself relaxing in bed with White in a carousel<\/a> of end-of-summer images on Instagram. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By the time Dobrev turned up<\/a> at the Toronto International Film Festival last week for the premiere of \u201cEternity<\/a>,\u201d however, she notably did not appear to be wearing an engagement ring. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She also posted a cryptic TikTok video<\/a> in which she lip-synced to audio of two women discussing how to \u201cfix\u201d a man. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cListen, Bob the Builder, he\u2019s got 10 other women trying to fix him, too,\u201d she mouthed in the clip. \u201cAnd you all look like a damn construction crew.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And as People pointed out, the couple\u2019s engagement photos weren\u2019t pinned to the top of Dobrev\u2019s Instagram account, as had previously been the case. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

White and Dobrev were first romantically linked<\/a> in late 2019. The pair went public with their relationship in May 2020, when White shared photos of Dobrev giving him a haircut while in COVID-19 lockdown. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

White popped the question<\/a> to Dobrev at New York\u2019s Golden Swan restaurant last October. When asked by E! News<\/a> in March why the couple had yet to start wedding planning, Dobrev said, \u201cWe\u2019re just enjoying being engaged at this point and being in that sort of phase.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou have a boyfriend for half of your life and then you have a husband for half of your life but the fianc\u00e9 period is very short,\u201d she added. \u201cI really want to enjoy it and not rush that process.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
