Jennifer Lopez<\/strong><\/a> was ready to give it her all when auditioning for Evita, but had no idea Madonna<\/strong><\/a> had already landed the part.<\/p>\n \u201cI went to audition for Evita for [director] Alan Parker<\/strong>,\u201d Lopez, 56, said during a Wednesday, September 10, Q&A following a screening of her new movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, per Variety<\/a>. \u201cI had been practicing for weeks, and I sing my heart out.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cAnd [Parker] goes, \u2018You\u2019re amazing. Nice to meet you,\u2019\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n Madonna, now 67, played Argentinian first lady Eva Per\u00f3n<\/strong> in the 1996 film adaptation of Evita, which originated as a musical. The pop star won a Golden Globe for her performance. The movie is an adaptation of the Broadway production of the same name. Lopez portrays Ingrid Luna\/Aurora\/The Spider Woman, who was once played by legendary Chita Rivera<\/strong> on stage.<\/p>\n Lopez gushed about how thrilled she was for Kiss of the Spider Woman to be the \u201cfirst time\u201d she starred in a musical adaptation.<\/p>\n \u201cIt couldn\u2019t have been a better one for me,\u201d Lopez reflected on Wednesday. \u201cI was really, really glad to be able to do it and step into Chita Rivera\u2019s shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/span><\/div>\n
