It was firing on all cylinders, blending plot intrigue with showstopping performances from its all-star cast. When it seems like everything <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/entertainment\/the-office-spinoff-the-paper-is-out-for-delivery-review\/\">is a reboot or a sequel<\/a>, \u201cSeverance\u201d stands out as unique and singular, and it\u2019s firmly established as a watercooler conversation piece.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Adam Scott and Britt Lower in \u201cSeverance.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AppleTV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comedy Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cHacks\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bear\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Studio\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly Murders in the Building\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody Wants This\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShrinking\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat We Do in the Shadows\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner:<\/strong> \u201cThe Studio.\u201d It would be nice for \u201cWhat We Do In the Shadows\u201d to win for its final season. And, it\u2019s possible that awards darling \u201cThe Bear\u201d will once again steal the trophy from a real comedy show \u2013 as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/26\/entertainment\/the-bear-season-4-review-a-better-dish-than-season-3-but-still-lacking-flavor\/\">the restaurant drama is <em>not <\/em>a comedy<\/a>, despite continuously getting nominated in that category. But, \u201cThe Studio\u201d was the talk of the town this year. Brown, \u201cParadise\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gary Oldman, \u201cSlow Horses\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pedro Pascal, \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner: <\/strong>Noah Wyle. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/15\/entertainment\/severance-stars-adam-scott-patricia-arquette-know-the-answers-to-lumons-mysteries\/\">Adam Scott <\/a>was great in \u201cSeverance\u201d and if he wins, it would be deserved. It\u2019s also possible that Pascal will get recognition for his swan song, as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/20\/entertainment\/the-last-of-us-creator-craig-mazin-on-that-shocking-death-pedro-pascal-is-in-season-2-more-than-people-might-think\/\">this was his final season<\/a> on \u201cThe Last of Us.\u201d But, it feels like Wyle\u2019s time to shine. \u201cThe Pitt\u201d came out of nowhere and became a word of mouth sensation, with Wyle as the face of the HBO Max medical drama. Plus, everyone likes a comeback story, and Wyle hasn\u2019t made headlines since \u201cER.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Noah Wyle, Mackenzie Astin and Rebecca Tilney in \u201cThe Pitt.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Actress in a Drama Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Kathy Bates, \u201cMatlock\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bella Ramsey, \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Britt Lower, \u201cSeverance\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharon Horgan, \u201cBad Sisters\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keri Russell, \u201cThe Diplomat\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner:<\/strong> Britt Lower. This one may be a bloodbath between Lower and Bates, but Lower is more likely to bring home the win. In Season 2 of \u201cSeverance,\u201d Lower expertly played two different characters: her \u201coutie,\u201d duplicitous scion Helena Eagan, and her rebellious \u201cinnie,\u201d Helly R. She masterfully toggled the dual role. Plus, considering she was an unknown before the show premiered, Lower showed that she\u2019s a force to be reckoned with.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Britt Lower and Adam Scott in \u201cSeverance.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV+<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Actor in a Comedy Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Jeremy Allen White, \u201cThe Bear\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seth Rogen, \u201cThe Studio\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin Short, \u201cOnly Murders in the Building\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adam Brody, \u201cNobody Wants This\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jason Segel, \u201cShrinking\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner: <\/strong>Seth Rogen. In this slick series that lit up social media chatter, \u201cThe Studio\u201d rehabilitated Rogen\u2019s image from his stoner-bro comedy days to a more sophisticated comedic actor. It\u2019s not necessarily a comeback, as he\u2019s continuously been in the spotlight. But it does show a surprising level of depth and skill that many people never guessed Rogen had. Hollywood loves a story about itself, and it <em>also<\/em> loves a transformed image \u2013 Rogen and \u201cThe Studio\u201d offer both.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Seth Rogen and Catherine O\u2019Hara in \u201cThe Studio.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Actress in a\u00a0 Comedy Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Jean Smart, \u201cHacks\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ayo Edebiri, \u201cThe Bear\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quinta Brunson, \u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uzo Aduba, \u201cThe Residence\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kristen Bell, \u201cNobody Wants This\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner:<\/strong> Jean Smart. The Emmys has historically showered \u201cHacks\u201d and Smart with adulation, as she also won in 2021, 2022 and 2024. There\u2019s no reason for that to change. Although the other actresses in this category are solid, there\u2019s nothing stand-out enough this year to topple Smart\u2019s place on the throne. Tillman emerged from obscurity to become a star with his role in \u201cSeverance,\u201d so he could end up with the win. It\u2019s also possible all the \u201cWhite Lotus\u201d co-stars will cancel each other out. But, Goggins dominated the buzz this year to such an extent that he <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/04\/lifestyle\/white-lotus-hunk-walton-goggins-makes-receding-hair-sexy\/\">prompted headlines about receding hairlines now being sexy<\/a>. His \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d performance wasn\u2019t necessarily a career-best, but the \u201cFallout\u201d actor has been an underrated top character actor for years, in shows like \u201cThe Shield,\u201d \u201cJustified,\u201d and \u201cThe Righteous Gemstones\u201d without enough recognition. It\u2019s about time he got his flowers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Walton Goggins in \u201cThe White Lotus.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Aimee Lou Wood, \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parker Posey, \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carrie Coon, \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natasha Rothwell, \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Arquette, \u201cSeverance\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Katherine LaNasa, \u201cThe Pitt\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julianne Nicholson, \u201cParadise\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner:<\/strong> Carrie Coon. Coon is a Hollywood pro who has been doing stellar work for over a decade, and it\u2019s criminal that she didn\u2019t earn a nod for her performance in an earlier HBO series, \u201cThe Leftovers.\u201d Finally, the wider world is seeing her talent. They\u2019ll get their moment another time. The comedy is likely to dominate this year\u2019s ceremony, and while it\u2019s possible that Hahn will be upstaged by her co-star, Catherine O\u2019Hara, Hahn is the more obvious winner, with a meatier role. Her kooky turn as a marketing exec was attention-grabbing. Plus, similar to fellow contenders Goggins, Coon and Ford, she\u2019s been turning in good work for years without winning an Emmy. That worked out well for the latter show, as it won a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/15\/entertainment\/emmys-2024-full-list-of-nominations-and-winners\/\">boatload of Emmys last year<\/a>. So it\u2019s likely to work out for \u201cAdolescence,\u201d too. It\u2019s topical \u2013 about a teen boy who is accused of committing a shocking act of violence \u2013 and it\u2019s filmed in an elevated artsy way, with one continuous take.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Mark Stanley, Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham in \u201cAdolescence.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Colin Farrell, \u201cThe Penguin\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Graham, \u201cAdolescence\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jake Gyllenhaal, \u201cPresumed Innocent\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brian Tyree Henry, \u201cDope Thief\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper Koch, \u201cMonsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner:<\/strong> Colin Farrell. Farrell has been a stellar actor for decades, and he only seems to get better with age.
