Thousands of people are in Cavendish, P.E.I., this weekend for Sommo Festival.<\/p>\n
It’s only in its third year, but for fans like Sarah Parsons, from Nova Scotia, the music\u00a0festival has already become a must-see event.<\/p>\n
“We booked it a year in advance, I think.”<\/p>\n
Josh Pellerine came to the festival with Parsons and his wife, Jessica. It’s his first time, and he’s especially excited to see\u00a0Hozier.<\/p>\n
The Irish singer-songwriter is one of about a dozen\u00a0acts performing over the weekend. They include other big names like Alanis Morissette, who took to the stage\u00a0Saturday night.<\/p>\n
“It’s amazing. I’m a musician and to see such large musicians like this come through in such a small town like Cavendish … it’s great for the Maritimes. It’s great for everybody,” said Pellerine. <\/p>\n
People don’t come just for the big names in music. The festival is also billed as a place to enjoy local food, with vendors coming from around the region.<\/p>\n

Kyle Conrad co-owns Halifax-based food truck Bud the Spud. “It’s a lot of fun,” he said.<\/p>\n
Conrad said festivals like this\u00a0are great for vendors who want to branch out to other provinces.<\/p>\n
Organizers up to 35,000 people from across Canada and the U.S. are expected to sample the tastes and sounds of Sommo over the weekend.<\/p>\n
