Pictures\u2019 1999 anime hit \u201cPok\u00e9mon: The First Movie,\u201d which grossed $31 million in its opening weekend. Warner Bros. Discovery is the parent company of celebrity.land.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cInfinity Castle\u201d is also the best opening for a \u201cDemon Slayer\u201d movie, after FUNimation Entertainment\u2019s \u201cDemon Slayer: Mugen Train\u201d ($21 million) in 2021 and Sony\u2019s \u201cDemon Slayer: To the Hashira Training\u201d ($11.5 million) in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe can easily call this a surprise hit,\u201d said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Comscore, adding that, \u201cto have this one dominate the (domestic box office), I don\u2019t think anyone could see this coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dergarabedian called \u201cInfinity Castle\u201d a \u201cbox office juggernaut,\u201d noting that it\u2019s the sixth-largest September opening, according to Comscore data. Pictures<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lionsgate\u2019s \u201cThe Long Walk,\u201d an adaptation of the 1979 Stephen King book, came in fourth with $11.5 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This weekend continued a trend of movies that court audiences of all ages and various genres, although horror has been a highlight leading into the fall season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dergarabedian said the \u201cwell-curated\u201d slate of movies this month could lead to strong ticket sales in the coming weeks, with Universal Pictures\u2019 and Jordan Peele\u2019s \u201cHim\u201d opening next weekend and expected to boost mid-September sales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The busy box office is a good sign for theaters, which are coming off a lackluster end to the summer season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cFor many years, we would see strong Augusts and slow Septembers. It\u2019s reversed this year in a lot of ways.
