Don\u2019t tune into tonight\u2019s 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards<\/a> on CBS<\/a> expecting any political commentary from host Nate Bargatze<\/a>. The comedian says he\u2019s avoiding hot-button topics as he emcees the awards show.<\/p>\n During the Emmys press preview on Thursday, Entertainment Weekly<\/a> asked Bargatze how political this year\u2019s Emmys would get, to which he said, \u201cNot. Not at all.\u201d<\/p>\n Bargatze elaborated, saying, \u201cI know there\u2019s heartbreaking stuff that\u2019s been happening right now, but I want this night to be an escape, and I think that\u2019s why I was brought on. I think a lot of people are watching \u2014 and I know they watch my stand-up \u2014 for that reason, so I don\u2019t want to break that trust I have in them, and just make the night a fun night.\u201d<\/p>\n The Emmys come just days after the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/a> at a Utah Valley University event, an incident that kicked off a political firestorm, especially on cable news<\/a>. But Bargatze said 2025 Emmys joke writers \u201cwere never really going to do anything [political] to begin with\u201d for the show.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was just trying to stay in the lane that we\u2019re in,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m not above anything. It\u2019s beyond me. It\u2019s like, the saddest thing in the world.
