In an appearance on the Late Night with Stephen Colbert show on Thursday, Sept. 11, the Grammy-winning singer was asked if any of the women\u2019s partners were upset at him after serenading their wives.<\/p>\n \u201cHave you ever heard from any angry husbands or boyfriends? Because you are not feeding my wife cherries,\u201d Colbert said.<\/p>\n \u201cThere have been a couple of people who are very clear that they didn\u2019t want me to feed cherries. Mookie Betts of the L.A. Dodgers, he said, he comes over to me, he\u2019s like, \u2018No serenade. Leave the cherries at home. No cherries,’\u201d he said of Betts, who\u2019s married to Brianna Hammonds.<\/p>\n Colbert responded, \u201cThat\u2019s a man that uses a bat professionally. I would listen.\u201d<\/p>\n The late-night host then teased the singer how he gets the women excited about these segments at his concerts.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat are you doing to those women, Usher?\u201d Colbert joked.<\/p>\n \u201cThe whole idea of cherries is just giving women the freedom to have fun at a concert,\u201d Usher responded.<\/p>\n Betts is not the only professional athlete to have a run-in with Usher. Kyle Kuzma and Winnie Harlow attended his Vegas concert in July 2023 and when Usher was walking down the aisle, the super model declined a serenade and jumped into Kuzma\u2019s arms.<\/p>\n In July 2023, a video went viral of Usher serenading Keke Palmer at his Vegas show. At the time, the actress was in a relationship with Darius Jackson, the father of their son Leodis Andrellton Jackson. His reaction to the video went viral when he responded on X, \u201cIt\u2019s the outfit tho\u2026 you a mom,\u201d he wrote referring to Palmer\u2019s black mesh outfit.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Usher was a guest on Palmer\u2019s show, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast when they addressed the viral situation.<\/p>\n \u201cMy reaction [to the show] was just like, \u2018I can\u2019t believe it, I haven\u2019t seen anybody perform like this in such a long time,\u2019\u201d Palmer reminisced about seeing Usher live. \u201cNow obviously everybody went crazy. We caused some ruckus in my relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n Usher said it was not his intention to cause any harm and it was all fun when he spotted her in the crowd.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to take any responsibility for breaking everybody\u2019s home up, but that wasn\u2019t the purpose and point,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was for you to have a good time with your girls. Come out there and just enjoy\u2026 You looked fabulous, by the way. And if you didn\u2019t wear what you wore, I wouldn\u2019t have seen you. You was fabulous, amazing. I was like, \u2018Oooh, Keke, come here, girl.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Palmer didn\u2019t blame the R&B legend either, she admitted that it was a fun time regardless, \u201cPeople have problems. Relationships have up and downs.
