Maureen McCormick<\/strong> was one of the most beloved television stars of the 1970s. Her Brady Bunch<\/em> character, Marcia Brady, was the all-American teen queen that every girl wanted to be and every boy wanted to date.<\/p>\n But McCormick\u2019s future husband knew nothing about her signature role when she first met him.<\/p>\n Speaking with People<\/em> magazine<\/a> in September 2025, the actress, 69, revealed that when she met her husband, Michael Cummings<\/strong>, in the early 1980s he had no clue who she was\u2014 and had never heard of the popular character she played on the classic ABC sitcom.<\/p>\n \u201cWhich was very refreshing for me, because [he had] no pre-conceived ideas about who I was,\u201d McCormick shared. \u201cSo, it was really wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n In her 2008 memoir, Here\u2019s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice,<\/em><\/a> McCormick revealed that she met Cummings after hitting a low point in her life while she was a star on The Brady Bunch<\/em> spinoff, The Brady Brides<\/em>. She spotted Cummings while at a concert through her church and immediately knew he was her soulmate.<\/p>\n \u201cI turned around and saw his guy behind me,\u201d McCormick wrote in her book. \u201cI\u2019d never seen him before. He had dark hair, a great build, and chiseled features. I looked straight into his eyes and thought, \u2018This is the man I\u2019m going to marry.’\u201d<\/p>\n She got to know Cummings through Bible studies at her church and ultimately opened up to him about her struggles with drug abuse after living her life in the spotlight. The couple wed in 1985 and had a daughter, Natalie, in 1989. McCormick relapsed on drugs early in the relationship, but Cummings stayed by her side.<\/p>\n \u201cMichael said that he\u2019d made a life-long commitment and decided he was going to work at it until it\u2019s unworkable,\u201d she wrote. \u201cHe thought child stardom had arrested my development, and in many ways, he was right,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n McCormick has credited Cummings with saving her.
