Rick Moranis<\/a><\/strong> has officially landed in Sydney, Australia, as he prepares to start filming the highly anticipated Spaceballs 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Video footage from Entertainment Tonight<\/a><\/em> shared on September 11<\/a>, showed the beloved \u201880s star wearing jeans and a dark sweater that he paired with a tan baseball<\/a> cap. Moranis\u2019 return to acting came after the comedian stepped away from the spotlight in the late \u201890s. His last live-action role was in 1997\u2019s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Moranis, 72, shifted his focus to raising his kids after his wife, Ann Belsky Moranis, died from cancer in 1991. While he did the occasional voiceover role, like in Disney\u2019s 2003 animated movie Brother Bear<\/em>, he avoided live-action appearances.<\/p>\n

In the comments section of the clip on YouTube, several people were incredibly excited about the Ghostbusters<\/a><\/em> star\u2019s return to the big screen.<\/p>\n

A third person chimed in and said, \u201cI\u2019ve always said that if there was anyone who could get Rick Moranis out of retirement<\/a>, it would be Mel Brooks<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spaceballs 2<\/em> was officially confirmed in June when Josh Gad<\/strong> announced the project. Brooks, 99, is back as producer, a full 38 years after he directed the original Spaceballs<\/em>, ensuring the sequel carries his trademark humor. In the months that followed, both Bill Pullman<\/strong> and Daphne Zuniga<\/strong>, stars of the original, were confirmed by Deadline<\/a><\/em> to return. Pullman\u2019s son, Lewis Pullman<\/strong>, was also announced as part of the cast, along with Keke Palmer<\/a><\/strong>. However, Gad, 44, kept teasing that the \u201cbiggest surprise\u201d would be Moranis\u2019 return as Dark Helmet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I am not going to comment on whether or not Rick Moranis is returning, but hypothetically, if he were to return, I would say it\u2019s because Rick would have felt like this was a project worthy of his return,\u201d Gad told ScreenRant<\/a><\/em> in an interview published on September 9.<\/p>\n

Spaceballs 2<\/em> is expected to release at some point in 2027.<\/p>\n
