Javier Bardem took a moment on the 2025 Emmys red carpet to call on \u201cIsrael to stop this genocide\u201d in Palestine.<\/p>\n
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the 77th Emmy\u00a0Awards\u00a0ceremony, the actor didn\u2019t want to talk about Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story but rather the ongoing active warfare between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAt the end of August, the IAGS, the International Association of Genocide Scholars who studied thoroughly the concept of genocide, called what is going on in Gaza today a genocide,\u201d Bardem said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why we ask for the commercial and diplomatic blockade and the sanctions on Israel to stop this genocide. Free Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cWe are getting together Film Workers for Palestine. It\u2019s a great union [and] group that is getting more and more people attached. It\u2019s also important to clarify to Paramount that we do not target individuals by their identity. That\u2019s absolutely wrong. Don\u2019t send that message, that is a wrong thing. What we target are those complicit film companies and institutions that are involved in whitewashing or justifying the genocide of Israel in Gaza and its apartheid regime. And we stand with those who fight and stand in solidarity with the oppressed.\u201d<\/p>\n Bardem added that he \u201cwill never work with some company now [who] are not condemning the genocide in Gaza.\u201d And if that impacts the number of jobs he books, he said, \u201cMe not getting jobs is absolutely relevant compared to what is going on there.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Film Workers for Palestine announced a new pledge <\/a>to boycott working with Israeli film institutions and companies that are \u201cimplicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.\u201d More than 1,300 filmmakers, actors, creatives and other industry professionals signed the pledge.<\/p>\n Bardem is nominated for best supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for\u00a0Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. He portrayed Jose Menendez in the show, alongside Cooper Koch\u2019s Erik Menendez, Nicholas Alexander Chavez\u2019s Lyle Menendez and Chlo\u00eb Sevigny\u2019s Kitty Menendez.<\/p>\n Hacks\u00a0star\u00a0Megan Stalter\u00a0<\/a>also walked the Emmys red carpet wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, paired with a black bag displaying writing that read, \u201cCease Fire!,\u201d seemingly referencing the ongoing war in Gaza.<\/p>\n The 77th Emmy Awards, hosted by Nate Bargatze<\/a>, aired live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 14.
