It is not Saturday night, and the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards aren\u2019t taking place live from New York, but there were still some major Saturday Night Live<\/a><\/em> vibes in the cold open for the awards show on Sunday (September 14) night.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s Emmys host, Nate Bargatze<\/a>, recruited SNL<\/em> stars Mikey Day<\/a>, Bowen Yang<\/a>, and James Austin Johnson<\/a> to help him with a \u201cWashington\u2019s Dream\u201d circa Season 49<\/a>-style sketch about the conceptualization of television that took shots at certain networks, along with the state of television as a whole, to begin the show on a funny note.<\/p>\n \u201cI dream that one day, there\u2019ll be a channel for every interest. A travel channel for travel, a food channel for food, and a history channel for history \u2014 no, aliens,\u201d Bargartze said in a period-style monologue.<\/p>\n \u201cThere won\u2019t be history on the history channel?\u201d Day\u2019s character asked in response.<\/p>\n \u201cNo. Just as there will be no learning on the learning channel,\u201d Bargatze responded.<\/p>\n In another part of the segment, Bargartze added, \u201cOne day, I dream, there\u2019ll be so many shows, we\u2019ll have to invent another type of TV called streaming.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat is streaming, sir?\u201d Yang\u2019s character asked.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cA new way for companies to lose money,\u201d he answered. \u201cThese streamers will make their own shows and create their own stars.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWho will those stars be?\u201d Johnson asked.<\/p>\n \u201cMurderers. Real-life murderers mostly,\u201d Bargatze said.<\/p>\n \u201cWho would watch shows about murderers for entertainment?\u201d Day\u2019s character chimed in to ask.<\/p>\n \u201cYour wife, my wife, everyone\u2019s wife,\u201d he responded to thunderous audience laughter.<\/p>\n Fans reacted with praise to the sketch on social media. \u201cGood cold open that calls back Nate Bargatze\u2019s funniest <\/span>SNL<\/span> sketch,\u201d one fan wrote<\/a>. \u201cThey should just do an SNL<\/span> sketch to open every awards show,\u201d said another<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n The bit was a callback to his hit \u201cWashington\u2019s Dream\u201d sketch in which his character, George Washington, imagined the future of America \u2026 particularly with regard to its unique choice of measurement types.<\/p>\n Watch part of the segment below!<\/p>\n
