\u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u201d had been nominated for outstanding talk series or outstanding variety talk series nine consecutive times.<\/p>\n On Sunday, the show finally emerged victorious in the Emmys<\/a> category.<\/p>\n The outstanding talk series win was somewhat bittersweet, arriving months ahead of the exit of Colbert<\/a> from the CBS late-night fixture and permanent end of \u201cThe Late Show,\u201d<\/a> announced in July.<\/p>\n But Colbert<\/a>\u2019s expression was all joy as he got onstage to accept the honor with his \u201cLate Show\u201d colleagues, who started a chant of \u201cStephen! Stephen!\u201d<\/p>\n More staff from the show cheered from the audience.<\/p>\n Colbert used his time as an Emmys presenter earlier in the show to hand his resume and headshot<\/a> to Harrison Ford<\/a> (to give to Steven Spielberg) and announce he was looking for a job<\/a> along with the 200 other people<\/a> who work on \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/b>See Stephen Colbert hand Harrison Ford resume, headshot at the Emmys<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n Colbert told the audience that the late-night show is set to go dark this May.<\/p>\n But accepting the \u201cLate Show\u201d Emmy, Colbert, a longtime Montclair resident<\/a>, was in full celebratory mode (see video below).<\/p>\n He has hosted \u201cThe Late Show\u201d since September 2015, so the win capped a full decade that he\u2019s manned the host\u2019s desk on CBS.<\/p>\n \u201cThank you for this honor,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cI wanna thank CBS for giving us the privilege to be part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we\u2019re no longer doing this show.\u201d<\/p>\n Accepting the Emmy, Colbert thanked his wife, Evelyn \u201cEvie\u201d McGee Colbert \u2014 who he called \u201cthe real brains of the outfit\u201d \u2014 along with their children, Madeleine, Peter and John.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanna dedicate this to my mom and dad, her mom and dad, and a young woman who should be here tonight, Amy Cole<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Cole, Colbert\u2019s executive assistant, died of cancer<\/a> in 2024. She was 53 and had worked with Colbert for 16 years. Woo!\u201d<\/p>\n CBS has attributed its decision to end \u201cThe Late Show\u201d to a rough landscape for late-night shows at large, saying the move was a \u201cpurely\u201d a \u201cfinancial<\/a>\u201d one.<\/p>\n However, many have pointed to Colbert\u2019s on-air criticism of its parent company Paramount\u2019s concessions to Trump<\/a> as a reason executives would want Colbert and the show out of the picture.<\/p>\n The announcement of the show\u2019s end was made after Colbert skewered the company for paying Trump a $16 million settlement<\/a>. The president had sued Paramount for $10 billion<\/a> over claims he made about the editing of a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview<\/a> with Vice President Kamala Harris, his opponent in the election.<\/p>\n At the time, Paramount was anticipating a merger with Skydance.<\/p>\n \u201cAs someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I am offended and I don\u2019t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company,\u201d Colbert said on \u201cThe Late Show\u201d not long before its end was announced. \u201cBut just takin\u2019 a stab at it, I\u2019d say $16 million would help.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cIt\u2019s \u2018big fat bribe.\u2019 Because this all comes as Paramount\u2019s owners are trying to get the Trump administration to approve the sale of our network to a new owner, Skydance … And some of the TV typers out there are blogging<\/a> that once Skydance gets CBS, the new owner\u2019s desire to please Trump could \u2018put pressure on late-night host and frequent Trump critic Stephen Colbert.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Read the original article on NJ.com<\/a>.
