Saturday Night Live<\/i> creator Lorne Michaels finally addressed the shock exits of some of the show\u2019s cast members earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe show has always brought people in from new, different ages and different generations, and it has to it\u2019s how it revives itself,\u201d Michaels told Entertainment Tonight<\/i><\/a> on the Emmys red carpet Sunday night. \u201cIt\u2019s always hard when people leave, but there\u2019s a time for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the exits of Devon Walker<\/a>, Emil Wakim<\/a>, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Garnder, the show announced new players<\/a> Ben Marshall (of sketch group Please Don\u2019t Destroy), Veronika Slowikowska, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, and Kill Tony<\/i> proteg\u00e9 Kam Patterson.<\/p>\n

Recurring cast member Chloe Fineman told Extra<\/i> on Friday that she was surprised by how \u201cyoung\u201d the new players are. \u201cWhen I saw how young the new cast was, I immediately got a laser,\u201d the 37-year-old said, joking that she might consider a \u201cforever-35 facelift.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michaels addressed the youth of his new cast members to ET<\/i> Sunday, saying, \u201cOur audience always stayed relatively young, and more so now with TikTok. Change is good and the people we\u2019re bringing in, I\u2019m really excited about.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Gardner\u2019s exit was particularly jarring after eight seasons on the show amid reports that her contract was not renewed<\/a>, the departure of Ego Nwodim<\/a> also shook the show\u2019s fans. Nwodim announced her departure Friday after the next season\u2019s cast was already confirmed\u2014and she\u2019d been named as a returning member.<\/p>\n

After accepting SNL<\/i>\u2018s Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) from Tina Fey, Michaels, who\u2019s publicly toyed with the idea of retiring from the show, said, \u201cI won this award for the first time 50 years ago, in 1975. I was younger and I had a lot of dreams about what would happen, and not one of those dreams was that I would still be doing the same show for the next 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
