Brian Kilmeade, the co-host of \u201cFox and Friends,\u201d broke his silence over the weekend after his idea on how to deal with the homeless \u2014 involuntary lethal injection \u2014 was met with widespread rebuke and calls for his firing. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn the morning, we were discussing the murder of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina and how to stop these kinds of attacks by homeless mentally ill assailant, including institutionalizing or jailing such people so they cannot attack again,\u201d Kilmeade said on the network. \u201cNow during that discussion, I wrongly said they should get lethal injections.<\/p>\n
\u201cI apologize for that extremely callous remark,\u201d he continued. \u201cI am obviously aware that not all mentally ill, homeless people act as the perpetrator did in North Carolina and that so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kilmeade made his controversial remarks during the Wednesday episode of \u201cFox and Friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
He entered his idea into a discussion with co-hosts Ainsley Earhart and Lawrence Jones while discussing the tragic fatal stabbing of Zarutska, a Ukranian refugee.<\/p>\n
The trio discussed the incident and made the case that the suspect, who had a long list of arrests and was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia, should have been taken off the streets a long time ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is happening all across the country, and it\u2019s a money issue,\u201d Jones said before adding that a lot of homeless people \u201cdon\u2019t want\u201d help.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t give \u2018em a chance,\u201d he added. \u201cEither you take the resources that we\u2019re going to give you, or you decide that you gotta be locked up in jail. That\u2019s the way it has to be now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kilmeade then floated his idea.<\/p>\n
\u201cOr uh, involuntary lethal injection. Or something,\u201d he said. \u201cJust kill \u2018em.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kilmeade\u2019s comment, which was given on Wednesday\u2019s show, drew rebuke across social media. <\/p>\n
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) shared it and wrote, \u201cWhoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.\u201d<\/p>\n
Billy Baldwin shared the clip and wrote, \u201cBrian Kilmeade must apologize or be fired.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat Brian Kilmeade said about the homeless on national TV was abhorrent,\u201d Silvia Ramirez wrote. \u201cBrian Kilmeade sees the homeless as the enemy. He sees people who have lost it all as lesser than. He views the homeless as yesterday\u2019s trash. The inhumanity of his words. Brian Kilmeade should be fired.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don Beyer (D) wrote on X. \u201cNobody deserves to be murdered for mental illness or poverty. These Fox hosts are calling for mass murder \u2014 it\u2019s sick.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
