While millions tuned in to watch the 2025 Emmys from home, much more unfolded inside the Peacock Theater in downtown L.A. on Sunday night that viewers didn\u2019t see. After braving a hot red carpet, stars made their way inside for TV\u2019s biggest night, and Gold Derby was on the ground inside the theater \u2014 and later at the Governors Ball \u2014 to capture it all.<\/p>\n
Roughly 20 minutes before showtime, the lobby was buzzing. The Studio<\/em> star Seth Rogen<\/strong> made his way to his seat as theater-goers yelled out, \u201cGood luck!\u201d Jenny Slate<\/strong> was spotted deep in conversation with Dying for Sex<\/em> Emmy-nominated director Shannon Murphy<\/strong>, while Only Murders in the Building<\/em> duo Steve Martin<\/strong> and Martin Short<\/strong> arrived around 4:40 p.m., followed closely by Dying for Sex<\/em>\u2019s Michelle Williams<\/strong>. Reba McEntire<\/strong> made a quiet entrance just moments later as Bad Sister<\/em>\u2019s Sharon Horgan<\/strong> calmly headed to her seat. With just five minutes to spare, Colin Jost<\/strong> and Scarlett Johansson<\/strong> entered hand-in-hand, quickly ushered to their front-row seats as the show was about to begin.<\/p>\n More from Gold Derby<\/strong><\/p>\n Severance<\/em> star Tramell Tillman<\/strong> took home one of the night\u2019s first major awards and made history as the first Black man to ever win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. While viewers at home saw the emotional moment, what they didn\u2019t see was that Severance<\/em> producer-director Ben Stiller<\/strong> was the first to leap out of his seat and begin clapping loudly, as others soon joined him.<\/p>\n The theater collectively gasped when Jeff Hiller<\/strong> (Somebody Somewhere<\/em>) won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Moments after his win, Harrison Ford<\/strong>, who lost in the category, was seen still in good spirits, chatting with wife Calista Flockhart<\/strong> and Shrinking<\/em> costar Jason Segel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n During commercial breaks, the audience was treated to clips of Emmys flashbacks that featured acceptance speeches from the likes of Barbra Streisand<\/strong>, Alan Alda<\/strong>, Merritt Weaver<\/strong>, and Jack\u00e9e Harry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Hannah Einbinder<\/strong> was the first \u2014 but not the last \u2014 celeb of the night to get bleeped, exclaiming, \u201cF–k ICE\u201d during her acceptance speech. While TV audiences heard the censorship beep, the in-person crowd got the full, uncensored moment. Later, John Oliver<\/strong>\u2019s speech for Best Scripted Variety Series drew laughs when he too was censored for saying, \u201cF–k you, Nate Bargatze<\/strong>, that is a lot of money to you!\u201d \u2014 referencing the Emmys\u2019 45-second speech cutoff and its fine.<\/p>\n Loud boos could be heard when TV Academy chair Cris Abrego<\/strong> mentioned that Congress had cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. And the excitement for one of the night\u2019s most anticipated wins \u2014 Stephen Colbert<\/strong> \u2014 was palpable inside the theater. The crowd began cheering and rising to their feet even before his name was officially announced, and once it was, the room exploded in applause.<\/p>\n After the show, guests slowly made their way to the Governors Ball to celebrate. There was a The White Lotus<\/em> reunion as Jason Isaacs<\/strong>, Carrie Coon<\/strong>, Jon Gries<\/strong>, and Charlotte Le Bon<\/strong> caught up. At one point, Coon began dancing near her table when Chaka Khan<\/strong>\u2019s “I\u2019m Every Woman” began to play on the dance floor.<\/p>\n Hiller celebrated his Emmy with a glass of Blue Label Johnnie Walker whiskey and told Gold Derby of his win, \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable. I think you all know better than anybody that this was unexpected. It was unexpected and it was a thrill and it was so exciting. I was so happy.
