Stephen Colbert is making it known that he is on the hunt for a new job.<\/p>\n
The talk show host hilariously addressed<\/a> the impending cancellation of \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday night, Sept. 14.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile I have your attention, is anyone hiring?,\u201d Colbert joked while receiving a standing ovation before presenting the first award of the night.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2019Cause I\u2019ve got 200 very well-qualified candidates with me here tonight who\u2019ll be available in June,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n Colbert then pulled out a copy of his resume for any interested employers. <\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t had a chance to update my headshot in a bit,\u201d Colbert said while holding up an older photo of himself. \u201cI think it still works. I\u2019m in there somewhere.\u201d <\/p>\n The talk show host then proceeded to run off the stage and hand his resume to Harrison Ford to give to Stephen Spielberg.<\/p>\n During a live taping on July 11, Colbert shared<\/a> CBS was ending \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d in May 2026.<\/p>\n The announcement came two days after Colbert spoke out<\/a> against Paramount Global, parent company of his network CBS, for settling with President Donald Trump<\/a> over a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d story.<\/p>\n \u201cI am offended,\u201d Colbert said in his monologue the Monday night prior. <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know if anything \u2014 anything \u2014 will repair my trust in this company, he continued. \u201cBut, just taking a stab at it, I\u2019d say $16 million would help.\u201d<\/p>\n Colbert said the technical name in legal circles for the deal was \u201cbig fat bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n Paramount and CBS executives said in a statement the cancellation \u201cis purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.\u201d<\/p>\n That same week, \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d was nominated for outstanding talk show for the sixth time. Colbert took home the award at the ceremony Sunday night.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege of being part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we\u2019re no longer doing this show,\u201d he said while accepting the award.<\/p>\n Colbert concluded his remarks with a comment that suggested he is looking to his post-CBS future. <\/p>\n \u201cIf the elevator tries to bring you down, go cray and punch a higher floor,\u201d the talk show host joked.<\/p>\n Rumors have circulated<\/a> that Colbert has signed a deal with Netflix since his show\u2019s cancellation announcement. During Colbert\u2019s final show on Aug. 7 before his hiatus, the host referenced a Daily Beast story<\/a> on vice president JD Vance, who was accused of requesting the water level of the Little Miami River be raised for his family\u2019s boating excursion.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is such an insane, spoiled-baby emperor move that I have no choice but to break out my new character: Wittle Pwince Vance,\u201d Colbert said during the show, using a baby voice while wearing a mask of Vance\u2019s face with a crown. \u201cHear ye, hear ye, hear ye! I want my wiver waised for my birthday! Also, I don\u2019t like how bwue the sky is \u2014 paint it wed! Now, give me juice box.\u201d When a staffer handed Colbert a juice box, he whined, \u201cNot fwuit juice \u2014 apple! Kill him! Kill him!\u201d<\/p>\n Colbert then took the mask off and said, \u201cNetflix, call me. I\u2019m available in June.\u201d <\/p>\n This joke became the foundation for the online claim, which, according to Newsweek<\/a>, stated that Netflix had secured a roughly $13.5 million, seven-episode deal with Colbert.<\/p>\n The speculation was amplified after Politico<\/a> and Bloomberg<\/a> wrote that Netflix Co-founder and Chairman, Reed Hastings, donated $2 million to California Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s redistricting efforts.<\/p>\n Additionally, an X user wrote a false claim on the platform stating that \u201cTelevision legend Stephen Colbert has just signed a $13.5 million deal with Netflix for a 7-episode series,\u201d Newsweek added.<\/p>\n The post quickly went viral, racking up over 1 million views, 39,000 like and 1,700 comments.<\/p>\n However, a context note<\/a> underneath the X post read, \u201cThere is no confirmation that Stephen Colbert has signed a deal with Netflix\u201d and sourced the media outlet Netflix Junkie<\/a>, which said the claim \u201cis nothing more than a hoax as there has been no confirmation of such a project, nor any indication of Colbert\u2019s next move.\u201d<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
