Ryan Reynolds revealed at TIFF (via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>) that he personally called a journalist who had once mocked John Candy\u2019s weight. The \u201cDeadpool\u201d actor saw archival footage of the insulting incident while working as a producer on Colin Hanks\u2019 documentary \u201cJohn Candy: I Like Me,\u201d which opened the festival.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was a lot of things we left out of the documentary, journalists just saying stuff. One of them I called,\u201d Reynolds said about the journalist who was on camera making inflammatory comments about Candy\u2019s weight. \u201cI didn\u2019t put it in the movie, but I called this journalist just to see.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t trying to shame him or teach him a lesson,\u201d Reynolds continued. \u201c[I told him] I took it out of the movie, but I\u2019d put it in the movie if you wanted to talk about it, because maybe you have something to say about it, about your journey whenever it comes to something like that. We had such a thoughtful conversation about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Even with this journalist removed from \u201cJohn Candy: I Like Me,\u201d Hanks\u2019 film still contains many examples of interviewers essentially calling Candy \u201cfat\u201d to his face.<\/p>\n \u201cYou look at interview after interview and horrible things are being said and questions are being asked in incredibly insensitive ways,\u201d Hanks told Variety <\/a>before the film\u2019s TIFF premiere. \u201cIt\u2019s tough to see how uncomfortable John was in almost every clip. And he had good reason, because some of the things that people said were disgusting and would not be tolerated today.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cJohn Candy: I Like Me\u201d includes interviews with dozens of the late comedian\u2019s former co-stars, including Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Catherine O\u2019Hara. The film made headlines<\/a> out of TIFF for including one interview with Candy\u2019s \u201cUncle Buck\u201d co-star Macaulay Culkin in which he reveals Candy stood up for him when it was clear Culkin\u2019s father was \u201calready a monster.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEven before the wave crested and the\u00a0\u2018Home Alone\u2019\u00a0stuff was happening, it was not hard to see how difficult my father was. It was no secret,\u201d Culkin said. \u201cAll of a sudden, the fame and the money came, and he became an\u00a0infamous\u00a0monster. He was already not a good guy. I think John was looking a little side-eyed, like, \u2018Is everything alright over there? You doing good? Good day? Everything\u2019s alright? Everything good at home?
