Colbert encouraged the crowd to return to their seats before joking that he was in need of a job.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile I have your attention, is anyone hiring?\u201d he quipped. He then said that his resume hadn\u2019t been updated in a while before unfolding a paper to reveal a throwback black-and-white headshot.<\/p>\n
Colbert added that there was only one entry on his resume and ventured into the crowd to hand the document to Harrison Ford. He playfully asked if the actor could pass it on to Steven Spielberg.<\/p>\n
Toward the end of the show, the crowd chanted his name again as he accepted the Emmy for outstanding talk series for \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege to be part of the \u2018Late Night\u2019 tradition, which I hope continues long after we\u2019re no longer doing this show,\u201d he said in his speech. He also expressed gratitude for the people on stage with him, the 200 professionals he works with, his fans for 20 years, his wife and his kids.<\/p>\n
He said that while working on the show he had intended for it to be about love but it later became a series about loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cTen years later in September of 2025, my friends I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong. Be brave. And if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor!\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
As mentioned, Colbert revealed during the July 17 episode of his show that \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d is \u201cgoing away\u201d next year and will not be replaced.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore we start the show, I want to let you know something that I found out just last night. Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending the \u2018Late Show\u2019 in May,\u201d he said as the crowd reacted by booing. \u201cAnd, yeah, I share your feelings. It\u2019s not just the end of our show, but it\u2019s the end of \u2018The Late Show\u2019 on CBS.\u201d<\/p>\n
He explained, \u201cI\u2019m not being replaced, this is all just going away.\u201d<\/p>\n
Colbert inherited \u201cThe Late Show\u201d from David Letterman when he stepped away in 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Late Show\u201d also won a Creative Artists Emmy Award on Sept. 7 in the category of outstanding directing for a variety series.<\/p>\n
While accepting the Emmy for outstanding writing for a variety series on Sunday, \u201cLast Week Tonight With John Oliver\u201d senior writer Daniel O\u2019Brien appeared to reference Colbert\u2019s cancellation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are honored to share (this category) with all writers of late-night political comedy while that is still a type of show that\u2019s allowed to exist,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
