Among the many treasures now on display at the just-opened David Bowie Centre<\/a> in London is a letter Lady Gaga wrote the legendary musician in the early 2010s.<\/p>\n The short note wasn\u2019t dated, but it was likely sent around late 2012 or early 2013. Gaga mentions having received an \u201cadvanced copy\u201d of Bowie\u2019s new album, and later says she\u2019s finishing her own LP, Artpop<\/a>, which eventually came out in November 2013. I feel as though my entire career has been an artistic plea for you to notice me.\u201d<\/p>\n After telling Bowie that she was finishing Artpop, she told him she was \u201cin New York and would be grateful and honored to meet you.\u201d The letter is signed \u201cLove + Art, Gaga.\u201d<\/p>\n While Gaga and Bowie never did meet, the former later revealed that she kept up a correspondence<\/a> with Bowie. After Bowie\u2019s death in 2016, Gaga led a tribute<\/a> to the late musician at the Grammy Awards, performing a medley that included \u201cSpace Oddity,\u201d \u201cFashion,\u201d \u201cLet\u2019s Dance,\u201d \u201cRebel Rebel,\u201d and \u201cHeroes.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking with NPR around the same time, Gaga spoke with NPR<\/a> about Bowie\u2019s influence, saying he introduced her to \u201ca lifestyle of total immersion in music, fashion, art and technology.\u201d Remembering the life-changing experience of encountering his album Aladdin Sane, she said, \u201cThat was just the beginning of my artistic birth.\u201d<\/p>\n The David Bowie Centre opened this past weekend at the Victoria and Albert East Storehouse in London.
