Rob Reiner<\/strong> revealed why he credits working with Andy Griffith for getting him his role on All in the Family<\/em>.<\/p>\n While appearing on the September 10 episode of “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” <\/a>Reiner, 78, spoke to host Ted Danson<\/strong> about how he was cast as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom.<\/p>\n \u201cThey had done two pilots at ABC that were rejected before it went to CBS<\/a> and was done at CBS,\u201d he said of the Norman Lear show.<\/p>\n He went on to explain that All in the Family<\/em> was an adaptation of a British series called Till Death Us Do Part<\/em>. In the UK show, patriarch Alf Garnett was portrayed \u201cvery much\u201d like how Carroll O\u2019Connor\u2019s character, Archie Bunker, was on All in the Family<\/em>. Meanwhile, Jean Stapleton appeared on the sitcom as Archie\u2019s wife, Edith.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the first two pilots, they had two different sets of Mike and Glorias,\u201d Reiner explained, referencing Edith and Archie\u2019s daughter, Gloria, and her husband, Michael Stivic. \u201cI auditioned for one of them, but I was not developed yet as an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n Around the same time, Reiner began working with Griffith on the series Headmaster<\/em>.
