{"id":2026185,"date":"2025-09-16T12:58:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T12:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2026185"},"modified":"2025-09-16T12:58:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T12:58:10","slug":"the-cure-announce-first-gig-of-2026-at-rock-en-seine-does-this-mean-the-new-album-is-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/the-cure-announce-first-gig-of-2026-at-rock-en-seine-does-this-mean-the-new-album-is-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cure announce first gig of 2026 at Rock En Seine \u2013 does this mean the new album is coming?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-cure\">The Cure<\/a> have announced that they will perform at the 2026 edition of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/festivals\/rock-en-seine-festival\">Rock En Seine<\/a> \u2013 marking their first scheduled show of next year and suggesting that a new album could be on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Today (September 16) it was confirmed that the iconic British band are the first name to be confirmed for next year\u2019s instalment of the French festival, and will be performing on the main stage at the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud on Sunday August 30. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rockenseine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visit here<\/a> to buy tickets, which go live at 4pm BST tomorrow (September 17).<\/p>\n<p>The set comes seven years after they first played at the festival, and marks the first gig since their<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cure-to-release-songs-of-a-lost-world-london-launch-show-as-live-album-3817525\">\u00a0show at London\u2019s Troxy last November<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That show was in front of just 3,000 fans, and came in celebration of them sharing their latest album, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/the-cure-songs-of-a-lost-world-review-lyrics-3801637\">\u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019<\/a>. It was available as a livestream, and in attendance were <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/green-day\">Green Day<\/a>\u2018s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/billie-joe-armstrong\">Billie Joe Armstrong<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/RADIOHEAD\">Radiohead<\/a>\u2018s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ed-o-brien\">Ed O\u2019Brien<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/boy-george\">Boy George<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/mogwai\">Mogwai<\/a>\u2018s Stuart Braithwaite, members of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/DURAN-DURAN\">Duran Duran<\/a>, Dr Brian Cox, Chris Packham, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/MY-BLOODY-VALENTINE\">My Bloody Valentines\u2019s<\/a> Kevin Shields, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/pedro-pascal\">Pedro Pascal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with today\u2019s announcement, it is looking hopefuly that Robert Smith and co might be gearing up to share a new album too. This comes as the frontman previously revealed that the band have <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cure-have-another-new-album-thats-virtually-finished-and-another-to-come-3802243\">another new album that\u2019s \u201cvirtually finished\u201d \u2013 with a third new record also on the way<\/a>. He has also shared that he wanted to complete one of the new releases before they hit the road again; possibly meaning that a new album will be shared ahead of their slot at the French festival in August.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOqL3m5iBfG\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSeriously, I have to finish the second album,\u201d Smith said in 2024, hinting that new live shows could begin before this year wraps up. \u201cI decided that we weren\u2019t going to play anything next summer. The next time we go out on stage will be autumn next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith also said that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cure-2025-world-songs-lost-world-tour-2029-anniversary-tim-pope-documentary-3802253\">he can imagine the celebrations continuing all the way up until they hit their 50th anniversary<\/a> as a band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll probably be playing quite regularly through until the next anniversary \u2013 the 2028 anniversary! It\u2019s looming on the horizon,\u201d he shared. \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/big-reads\/the-cure-interview-robert-smith-big-read-exclusive-interview-glastonbury-40th-anniversary-2019-glastonbury-mad-cool-2524439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 2018 one<\/a>, I started to think about in late 2016, thinking, \u2018I\u2019ve got a year and a half, it\u2019s easy!\u2019 And yet I still didn\u2019t manage to get there in time. Now, I\u2019m starting to think, \u20182028, I must get things in order\u2019; so [that\u2019s] the documentary film and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer continued: \u201cI\u2019m 70 in 2029, and that\u2019s the 50th anniversary of the first Cure album. That\u2019s it, that really is it. If I make it that far, that\u2019s it. In the intervening time, I\u2019d like us to include playing concerts as part of the overall plan of what we\u2019re going to do. I\u2019ve loved it; the last 10 years of playing shows have been the best 10 years of being in the band. It pisses all over the other 30 years! It\u2019s been great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cure\u2019s last gig in London last year was <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cure-to-release-songs-of-a-lost-world-london-launch-show-as-live-album-3817525\">shared as a live album dubbed \u2018Songs Of A Live World Troxy London MMXXIV\u2019<\/a>, and all of the band\u2019s royalties were donated to the charity <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.warchild.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">War Child<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also speculation as to whether The Cure might play London\u2019s Royal Albert Hall as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust gig series, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cures-robert-smith-to-curate-teenage-cancer-trust-2025-gig-series-it-is-a-great-honour-3847449\">after Smith took over as curator for 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Cure&#039;s Robert Smith gives new album update at NME Awards 2020\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B8UyndYt0oM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>At the show, they played \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019 in full, as well as a run of hits and favourites from across their career. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-cure-troxy-london-songs-of-a-lost-world-seventeen-seconds-setlist-footage-photos-pedro-pascal-3808927\"><em>NME<\/em> was in attendance, and noted<\/a>: \u201cThe feel of \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019 with its long introductions and heavy tapestry of sound felt so complete and natural for the band \u2013 landing live like an addition to the \u2018dark trilogy\u2019 of \u2018Disintegration\u2019, \u2018Pornography\u2019 and \u2018Bloodflowers\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Cooper\u2019s shuddering and monolithic drums brought in \u2018Endsong\u2019 before Gabrels\u2019 howling and epic guitar solo, the first set closed as one that will go down in history for fans of The Cure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While further details about new music from The Cure is still under wraps, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robert-smith-names-two-songs-likely-to-feature-on-the-cures-next-album-3825614\">Smith did drop a hint about how one of the new albums could sound<\/a> last year when appearing as a guest on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.radiox.co.uk\/radio\/shows-presenters\/xposure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>X-Posure with John Kennedy<\/em> on Radio X.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLyrically, it\u2019s a very long way from being an upbeat album,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt has one song of grief on it which didn\u2019t make it onto this album, which is a very, very old song which we\u2019ve been playing for a long, long time called \u2018It Can Never Be the Same\u2019. And I think that this next album will have that song on because I think it\u2019s about time. It used to be called \u2018Christmas Without You\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/the-cure-songs-of-a-lost-world-review-lyrics-3801637\">a five-star review of \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019<\/a>, <em>NME<\/em> concluded: \u201cMerciless? Yes, but there\u2019s always enough heart in the darkness and opulence in the sound to hold you and place these songs alongside The Cure\u2019s finest. The frontman suggested that another two records may be arriving at some point, but \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019 feels sufficient enough for the wait we\u2019ve endured, just for being arguably the most personal album of Smith\u2019s career.
