Joni Mitchell<\/strong> fans, rest assured: A biopic is coming.<\/p>\n The film’s director, Cameron Crowe<\/strong>, recently shared new details surrounding the project \u2014 though it’s still up in the air as to who will portray the music icon, 81.<\/p>\n “We\u2019re going to make it next year. There\u2019s not a lot I can say about it,” Crowe, 68, told The New York Times<\/em><\/a> in an interview published September 13. “Soon I\u2019ll be able to speak more definitively about who\u2019s in it and how we\u2019re gonna do it and everything.”<\/p>\n And \u2014 given the casting rumors that have swirled \u2014 when asked if Meryl Streep<\/strong> and Anya Taylor-Joy<\/strong> are playing the Canadian-American at different parts of her life, Crowe replied, “Can\u2019t confirm that. I wish I could.”<\/p>\n The Almost Famous<\/em> director, meanwhile, took time to share about the genesis of his idea for the biopic.<\/p>\n “I actually had a dream of a structure of how to tell that story,” he said. “So I called [Joni’s] place and told her right-hand person that I\u2019d had this dream, and if somebody comes knocking, come to me first and I\u2019ll tell you this idea and we\u2019ll see what happens. She\u2019s like: ‘They\u2019re knocking all the time, and Joni wonders why you\u2019ve taken so long to call. So yes, come over and tell us what your idea is.’ This was about four and a half years ago. Joni said: ‘Let\u2019s spend every Monday night. You come over here, we\u2019ll talk. You ask me anything you want.’ So that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been doing all this time. It\u2019s been incredibly inspiring \u2014 the most I\u2019ve interviewed anybody, the deepest-tissue kind of conversations I\u2019ve had with any artist, and I\u2019ve found it invigorating and can\u2019t wait to make the movie.”<\/p>\n Finally, when asked what is most important to him to convey in a film about Mitchell that hasn\u2019t already been conveyed about the legend, Crowe answered, “Her life from her point of view.
