The new\u00a0FBI<\/a><\/em> offshoot joining the CBS<\/a> lineup in the 2025-2026 season has gotten a major update when it comes to the premiere.<\/p>\n CIA<\/a><\/em> was ordered to series on April 22, 2025, with Tom Ellis<\/a> cast as the CIA lead working alongside an FBI agent. It was originally going to be a planted spinoff on FBI<\/em>, but ultimately, it is now a universe expansion. It was initially going to be airing in the fall, joining\u00a0FBI<\/em> on Monday nights, but when CBS announced its premiere dates<\/a> in July, that included a change for its schedule. However, it has since been moved to the midseason (with\u00a0Watson<\/em><\/a> Season 2 taking its place).<\/p>\n The crime drama is centered on two unlikely partners: a fast-talking, rule-breaking, loose-cannon CIA case officer (Tom Ellis) and a by-the-book, seasoned, and smart FBI agent (Nick Gehlfuss) who believes in the rule of law. When this odd couple gets assigned to work out of CIA\u2019s New York Station, they must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil, finding that their set of differences may actually be their strength.<\/p>\n The first cast member to be announced was Tom Ellis as the fast-talking, rule-breaking, loose-cannon CIA case officer.<\/p>\n Joining him are Nick Gehlfuss<\/a> as the by-the-book, seasoned, and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of the law,\u00a0Michael Michele<\/a> in a supervisory capacity at the CIA, and Natalee Linez as a CIA analyst.<\/p>\n Directing and executive producing the first episode is Eriq La Salle<\/a>, who has been behind the camera for multiple Dick Wolf shows, including\u00a0Chicago P.D.<\/a><\/em> (on which he was an executive producer),\u00a0Law & Order<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0On Call<\/a><\/em> (on which he also starred and executive produced), according to Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n Joining Dick Wolf as executive producers are showrunner David Hudgins<\/a>, Nicole Perlman and David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski. The series is from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment and CBS Studios.<\/p>\n Not yet. \u201cWe start shooting in September because we\u2019re going to be a midseason [show],\u201d Ellis told Collider<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n He added, \u201cWe haven\u2019t done a pilot, which is a really strange experience for me. That normally is your time for finding your character, finding out what the show is, experimenting with tone, and all those different things. We haven\u2019t got there yet. But the script is in a really great place. They\u2019re still casting at the moment. We\u2019re trying to find the person I\u2019m going to play opposite, essentially. What I would say is that I\u2019ve had a great time with the people from Dick Wolf Productions. They\u2019ve been incredibly enthusiastic and supportive about what we\u2019re doing. I think there is a shared feeling that we would like to really make our mark as a show. I think initially we were going to be a spin out series from FBI<\/em>.
