Just a few movies into her now-storied career, Glenn Close found herself starring opposite one of the most handsome and popular male movie stars of the time.<\/p>\n
In \u201cThe Natural,\u201d Robert Redford<\/a> played an aging baseball player who becomes a phenom. Close played his former girlfriend with whom he reconnects in a memorable scene where his character sees her in the stands, backlit in white, glowing like an angel. He\u2019s mesmerized, and so likely were the moviegoers who remember the 1984 film.<\/p>\n In sports terms, their chemistry was a homerun.<\/p>\n \u201cI think you work with an actor and you get the sense you can trust them\u2026 you can create together the belief in the audience that you are deeply in love with each other,\u201d Close said, reflecting on the film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress, in a conversation<\/a> with Brianna Keilar and Boris Sanchez on celebrity.land News Central on Tuesday.<\/p>\n She added: \u201cI also think that, personally, less is more. I think we see so much today of people ripping their clothes off and eating each other, basically, that it doesn\u2019t mean anything anymore. I think we\u2019ve become inured to that. What\u2019s most powerful is sometimes the simplest.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Natural\u201d ended up being the start of Close\u2019s professional relationship and deeply loving friendship with Redford \u2013 who died Tuesday at age 89 \u2013 that would span decades.<\/p>\n Close described Redford as \u201ca man who put his money and his life into what he believed in.\u201d His Sundance Institute being one of them.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was a great friend.
