The \u201cCool for the Summer\u201d <\/span>singer shared that her<\/span> ninth studio album <\/span>It\u2019s Not That Deep<\/span>\u2014out Oct. 24\u2014marks the return of \u201cPopvato,\u201d in part thanks to husband <\/span>Jutes<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s really a reflection of where I’m at personally,\u201d Demi told <\/span>Paper Magazine<\/span><\/a> in an interview published Sept, 15. \u201cI\u2019m not in this place in my life where I need these huge emotional ballads to release some sort of deep emotional trauma I’m going through.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The 33-year-old explained that when she started <\/span>to work<\/span> on the new album, she <\/span>began<\/span> writing songs that featured \u201cheavy topics,\u201d but quickly found that they weren\u2019t resonating with her. Instead, she gravitated towards lighter fare\u2014especially after <\/span>her May marriage<\/span><\/a> to the rapper and songwriter (real name <\/span>Jordan<\/strong> <\/span>Lutes<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in a place in my life where my energy feels very light,\u201d Demi continued. \u201cI just got married. It was a learning curve for me to take what I’ve always known about music, which is write what you know now. I had to learn how to write what was new to me, and that’s what this album is a reflection of.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
