I was just honoured just to be nominated at all, I&#8217;m shocked. Thank you God, thank you God, first and foremost,&#8221; he said, before also thanking his parents.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\" custom content\" class=\"customHtml\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;My parents are so supportive, I recorded most of the record in their spare room. I got a concussion &#8217;cause the ceiling was so low,&#8221; he said of recording the song <em>The Knife In Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It&#8217;s the first Polaris win for Jarvis, who took home the prize of $30,000 at Massey Hall in Toronto on Sept. 16. He has\u00a0been previously longlisted for the prize twice: <em>The Same But by Different Means<\/em> made the long list in 2019, and his 2020 album, <em>Sundry Rock Song Stock, <\/em>was longlisted in 2021.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>All Cylinders<\/em> is his fifth album, and it toys with sounds ranging from funk to jazz to simmering psychedelic rock. The album beat out records by Mustafa and Nemahsis, who both won Junos earlier this year for work associated with their respective albums <em>Dunya<\/em> and <em>Verbathim<\/em>. The remaining\u00a0artists shortlisted for the prize included Saya Gray, the OBGMs, Bibi Club, Population II, Marie Davidson, Lou-Adriane Cassidy and Ribbon Skirt.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Polaris Song Prize winner and Heritage Prize winners\u00a0revealed<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Folk singer-songwriter Mustafa was also a winner at the event, as he was named the inaugural Polaris Song Prize winner\u00a0for his track <em>Gaza Is Calling.<\/em> To mark the 20th edition of the Polaris Music Prize, the organization\u00a0launched the new song prize\u00a0in partnership with SOCAN.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WATCH | The official music video for Gaza Is Calling:<\/strong><\/em> <span><span class=\"youtube\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mustafa - Gaza is Calling (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DAFRV_SFp5s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mustafa will receive $10,000 for the prize, which he will split with his co-writers Emmanuel Hailemariam, Simon Hessman and Nicolas Jaar. Rapper and previous Polaris winner Cadence Weapon was on hand to accept the award on Mustafa&#8217;s behalf.\u00a0<em>Gaza Is Calling<\/em> was voted on by the Polaris jury as being the best Canadian song of the year, without regard to album sales.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Additionally, the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize winners were announced. The\u00a0award goes to two albums that\u00a0were released before the Polaris Music Prize&#8217;s inception in 2006.
