Days after missing a planned appearance at the Emmy Awards to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>, Eric Dane<\/strong> released a new video of himself on Instagram.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m Eric, an actor, a father, and now a person living with ALS,\u201d the Euphoria<\/em> star, 52, says in the video<\/a> posted on Tuesday, September 16, in which he announced a new campaign in conjunction with the I Am ALS advocacy group to accelerate research and secure $1 billion in federal funding.<\/p>\n \u201cFor over a century, ALS has been incurable and we\u2019re done accepting the status quo,\u201d Dane, who announced his diagnosis<\/a> in April, added. \u201cWe need the fastest path to a cure.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells, causing loss of muscle control and slurred speech, which fans noticed in Dane\u2019s video.<\/p>\n \u201cThe progression was so fast,\u201d one fan commented, while another added, \u201cIt\u2019s as if he\u2019s struggling with speaking. It\u2019s absolutely heartbreaking to see how fast he has changed for the worst.\u201d<\/p>\n Dane had previously opened up about living<\/a> with ALS.<\/p>\n \u201cI have one functioning arm. My dominant side, my left side, is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working,\u201d the father of two told Good Morning America<\/em><\/a>\u2019s Diane Sawyer<\/strong> in June, adding that he only has \u201ca few more months\u201d before his left arm and hand give out as well. \u201cIt\u2019s sobering.\u201d<\/p>\n Dane had been scheduled to present the award for Directing for a Drama Series alongside former Grey\u2019s<\/em> co-star Jesse Williams<\/strong> at the Emmys on September 14, per Page Six<\/em><\/a>.
