Among the speakers from YouTube was music boss Lyor Cohen, to talk about new features for artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re introducing new ways for artists and their top fans to connect on a more personal level. YouTube will also make it easier to segue from public livestreams to \u2018members-only\u2019 streams for paying fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube also announced\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.youtube\/news-and-events\/youtube-studio-made-on-youtube-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an expansion off its \u2018likeness detection\u2019 tool<\/a>\u00a0as an open beta to anyone whose channel is in YouTube\u2019s Partner Program. It helps those creators crack down on \u201cunauthorized videos made with your facial likeness\u201d using AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all made for an impressive statement of intent, even if some of the music features \u2013 countdowns and pre-saves \u2013 are just catching up to rivals. But the exclusive merch and video drops signify YouTube\u2019s increased focus on superfans, as do the members-only livestreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the debate around superfans and streaming services this year has focused on the likely launch of more-expensive subscription tiers:\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2025\/02\/17\/multiple-reports-offer-new-details-on-spotify-superfan-tier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify\u2019s rumoured \u2018Music Pro\u2019 offering<\/a>\u00a0for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube and YouTube Music\u2019s strategy seems different. Rather than a brand new service-wide tier, its superfans focus seems to be on creator and artist-level memberships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means adding features for those people to super-serve fans who are paying, but also those who are the most engaged with their work.
