Oh what a celebration we’ll have today\u2014 there is\u00a0new information about the music for the forthcoming\u00a0Wicked<\/a>: For Good<\/em>. It has been announced that the soundtrack for the second part of the\u00a0film adaptation of the Broadway show will include two new songs written by composer\u00a0Stephen Schwartz<\/a>:\u00a0a solo for Cynthia Erivo<\/a>‘s Elphaba called “No\u00a0Place Like Home”\u00a0and one for Ariana Grande<\/a>‘s Glinda called “Girl in the Bubble.”<\/p>\n

The soundtrack for\u00a0Wicked:\u00a0For Good\u00a0<\/em>will be released by Republic Records and Verve Records November 21, the same date that the film will be released in theatres.\u00a0Wicked: For Good\u00a0<\/em>encompasses the second act of the\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>musical, with an expanded script and songs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m especially happy that the soundtrack album for Wicked: For Good<\/em>\u00a0has so much new music on it,” said Schwartz in a statement. “In addition to two brand new songs, there is a lot that\u2019s new in several other existing songs. So not only listeners coming to the score for the first time, but long-time fans of the original Broadway cast album, will have a great deal to discover.\u201d Though the first\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>film did not have any new songs, Schwartz did write some new material <\/a>for existing songs.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, movie director Jon M. Chu expanded on the new songs, saying:\u00a0“They’re questioning, ‘What is home? And what happens when you are fighting for a home that you realize doesn’t even want you there, or was never meant for you? Do you defend it? Do you fight for it? Does anyone else think of home the same as you?’\u00a0Those questions are very interesting and relevant to Elphaba’s journey.” Of “Girl in the Bubble,” says Chu: “Glinda is the one that has to ultimately pop her own bubble. She has to leave her privilege to actually see other people’s struggles and fight for justice and equality.”<\/p>\n

Just a quick perusal of the track list does show some differences between the soundtrack and the\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>Broadway cast album. The second act opener “Thank Goodness” has been split into “Every Day More Wicked” and “Thank Goodness \/ I\u00a0Couldn’t Be Happier,”\u00a0hinting at new material. The short song “The Wicked Witch of the East,” which is usually sung by Nessarose in the stage show but had previously been left off the\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>cast album, will be included in the\u00a0For Good<\/em> soundtrack, sung by\u00a0Marissa Bode, Erivo, and Ethan Slater<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And as\u00a0previously predicted<\/a>, the song “Wonderful” (formerly sung by the Wizard and Elphaba)\u00a0is now a trio song sung by Jeff Goldblum<\/a>, Grande, and Erivo.<\/p>\n

Notably, the show finale, which is on the\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>cast album, is missing in the soundtrack\u2013perhaps pointing to a different kind of ending for the film.<\/p>\n
