KeiyaA<\/a>, the Chicago-born, New York\u2013based soul musician, singer-songwriter, and producer, has announced a new album. Her sophomore LP is titled Hooke\u2019s Law<\/em><\/a> and comes out October 31 via XL<\/a>. Featured the record is the new song \u201cTake It<\/a>,\u201d and its moody, low-lit music video is co-directed by Caity Arthur<\/a> and KeiyaA. It\u2019s more of a cycle, a spiral\u2014it\u2019s Hooke\u2019s law,\u201d said KeiyaA. \u201cWith this work, I aim to interrogate and embrace anger and conflict, disappointment and dissatisfaction, about not being docile and about rejecting mammyism and traditional expectations of fat black brown and dark skinned women in our communities. I speak about desire + longing, about examining maladaptive tendencies, conflict avoidance \u2013 the eternal relationship with the self.\u201d<\/p>\n Hooke\u2019s Law<\/em> follows KeiyaA\u2019s breakout debut album, 2020\u2019s Forever, Ya Girl<\/em><\/a>, her 2022 single \u201cCamille\u2019s Daughter<\/a>,\u201d and her full-length stage production, Milk Thot<\/em><\/a>, that ran in New York. The new LP was written, sung, and produced by KeiyaA herself over the past five years, in addition to her playing every instrument on the songs.
