The singer Ed Sheeran has revealed he turned down the opportunity to perform the \u201cfirst gig in space\u201d.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old appeared on Scott Mills\u2019 BBC Radio 2 breakfast show to discuss his latest album, Play<\/a>. During a conversation about American singer Mariah Carey \u2013 who said she wouldn\u2019t want to go to space \u2013 Sheeran<\/a> revealed he had been offered the chance to go himself, but turned it down.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea terrifies me,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to go to space when it\u2019s like flying to France and 40,000 people have done it, and you can just book it online.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to be a guinea pig for that, because it is still dangerous. There\u2019s places on this planet I would far rather go to than space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheeran said that the offer included performing the first gig in space, but he admitted it felt too risky now he was a father: \u201cI\u2019m not going to risk that for a Guinness World Record something or other. I\u2019m not going to risk my kids not having a dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Suffolk-raised singer recently revealed he was going to move to America in an interview with The 2 Johnnies Podcast, and announced he has plans for a posthumous album called Eject in the event of his death.<\/p>\n

Sheeran also spoke about his friend Lewis Capaldi returning to the stage after a break following his performance at Glastonbury in 2023<\/a>. Capaldi has been vocal about struggling with symptoms of Tourette syndrome.<\/p>\n

He told The Scott Mills Breakfast Show: \u201cI haven\u2019t seen Lewis on tour, but we have been speaking a fair bit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really happy for him \u2013 I really think that him taking time off was the best thing for him and his health. He has actually come back into it like reinvigorated and really loving it again, which I don\u2019t think he was on his second record.\u201d<\/p>\n
