No need to mourn for lack of news about the upcoming Wicked<\/em> movie. The second film in the musical duology, titled Wicked: For Good<\/em>, just <\/span>revealed its soundtrack<\/span><\/a> \u2014\u00a0and with it, the titles of the film\u2019s brand-new original songs from the Broadway musical\u2019s composer, Stephen Schwartz.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The first Wicked <\/em>film <\/span>hit theaters to much fanfare<\/span><\/a> last November, with its second part heading to cinemas on Nov. 21, 2025. The films are based on the hit Broadway musical, which itself was based on Gregory Maguire\u2019s 1995 book. It explores the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West from Frank Baum\u2019s The Wizard of Oz<\/em>, painting her as a misunderstood heroine.<\/span><\/p>\n In the film, Cynthia Erivo plays Elphaba, the so-called \u201cWicked Witch\u201d who fights against a fascist Wizard (played by Jeff Goldblum). Ariana Grande portrays Elphaba\u2019s enemy-turned-bestie Glinda the Good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When we left off with the first part of the Wicked <\/em>musical, Elphaba had escaped the Wizard\u2019s clutches, \u201cdefying gravity\u201d on her flying broomstick \u2014 while Glinda stuck to the comfortable, if also evil, status quo. Wicked: For Good<\/em>, which <\/span>released a trailer in June<\/span><\/a>, will explore how the two come back together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The first new track is titled \u201cNo Place Like Home,\u201d a nod to The Wizard of Oz<\/em>. Erivo sings the song and previously told <\/span>Variety\u2019s Awards Circuit<\/em> podcast<\/span><\/a> in December 2024 that she worked closely with Schwartz on the number, calling it \u201cso special.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears,\u201d she teased at the time. \u201cI hope audiences are ready \u2014 it\u2019s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
