during state visit &#8211; Royals &#8211; News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"British Royal Family\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/british-royal-family\">Royal Family<\/a> is going to roll out the red carpet for the US President later this week with <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"King Charles III\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/king-charles\">King Charles<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Queen Camilla\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/queen-camilla\">Queen Camilla<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/news\/royals\/182267\/King-Charles-puts-nation-before-self-as-he-prepares-for-Trump-state-visit\">co-hosting his state visit<\/a>, which kicks off on Wednesday, September 17 and will conclude on Friday, September 19, and it&#8217;s all thanks to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, says one royal expert.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, when a US President serves a second term, <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/news\/royals\/182627\/royal-couple-set-to-miss-us-state-visit\">they will be invited for tea or lunch by the Royal Family<\/a>, but this time around, Trump was invited for a second state visit, which is unprecedented.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\"><a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/news\/world-news\/142894\/keir-starmer-donald-trump-us-uk-trade-deal-nato\">Prime Minister Keir Starmer<\/a> hand-delivered the invitation to Trump during a <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"White House\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/white-house\">White House<\/a> visit over the summer with the US President accepting the invitation on the spot.<\/p>\n<p>We asked royal expert Ian Pelham Turner if Trump earned the invite with him saying it\u2019s more about the US than the actual individual and maintaining the special relationship between the UK and US.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Pelham Turner said: \u201cI think that&#8217;s really the strongest thing at the moment, when Trump is over, that he\u2019s going to get all the royal experiences, once more.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>We had the pleasure of joining the Mirror UK\u2019s Jennifer Newton, Deputy Royal Editor, <a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=76202X1736135&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fpodcasts.apple.com%2Fus%2Fpodcast%2Fthe-special-relationship-how-are-the-royals-viewed-in-the-us%2Fid1326865967%3Fi%3D1000726368883&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.the-express.com%2Fnews%2Froyals%2F183875%2FTrump-royal-experiences-state-visit-sir-Keir\" rel=\"nofollow\">for the latest episode of <em>Pod Save the King<\/em><\/a>, which puts a spotlight on the forthcoming state visit.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=76202X1736135&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fpodcasts.apple.com%2Fus%2Fpodcast%2Fthe-special-relationship-how-are-the-royals-viewed-in-the-us%2Fid1326865967%3Fi%3D1000726368883&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.the-express.com%2Fnews%2Froyals%2F183875%2FTrump-royal-experiences-state-visit-sir-Keir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">During the episode<\/a>, we chatted about how the invitation was extended and what to expect, and when it comes to the royals, we both agreed, you can expect the unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>Newton shared her thoughts on Sir Keir hand-delivering the invitation to Trump, which she described as \u201ctheatrical,&#8221; and to us, it was the perfect way to describe the exchange in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n<p>Newton said: \u201cAfter what seems like a long time ago, that Keir Starmer, kind of theatrically handed over this letter to Donald Trump, in the Oval Office, invited him for an unprecedented second state visit to the UK, and I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard, he\u2019s been referring to it as going to be \u2018a fest\u2019 \u2014 it\u2019s finally happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The royal editor also went over why the state visit is so important, in the eyes of Parliament and the British public:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the UK\u2019s perspective, this state visit is really important, not just from the royal angle, if we look at it from the political angle, the US being one of the UK\u2019s biggest allies, we want to have the US on side, we want to maintain what they call the special relationship and that\u2019s really important for us in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Royal Family plays a huge role in courting world leaders, in which Newton explains: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are the soft power.
