The worlds of Smallville<\/strong><\/a> and Arrow<\/strong><\/a> briefly crossed paths in the Arrowverse crossover event \u201cCrisis on Infinite Earths,\u201d with Tom Welling and Erica Durance reprising their respective roles as Clark and Lois. However, Smallville\u2019s Black Canary<\/a> actor Alaina Huffman<\/strong><\/a> recently shared that she was angling for a more prominent role in the Arrowverse<\/span> than just a one-off cameo.<\/p>\n In January 2020, The CW aired the penultimate episode of Arrow, \u201cGreen Arrow & The Canaries<\/a>,\u201d which served as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off series set in 2040 starring Oliver Queen\u2019s daughter Mia Smoak\/Green Arrow (Katherine McNamara), Laurel Lance\/Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), and Dinah Drake\/Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy). The network ultimately passed on the proposed series a year later, with the then-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic factoring into the decision not to move forward with the spin-off.<\/p>\n However, before The CW passed on Green Arrow and the Canaries, Huffman pitched being part of the spin-off to Arrowverse co-creator Greg Berlanti<\/a>. \u201cAt one point, the Berlanti world was gonna do a spin-off of the Black Canary from Arrow, and I made a pitch, \u2018cause they were gonna do a bunch of different versions of the Black Canary,\u201d Huffman revealed to CBR<\/a>. \u201cI thought it would be really, really cool to play, like, the den mother of the Canaries, just sort of playing that OG Black Canary role.\u201d<\/p>\n Huffman didn\u2019t go into too much detail about her pitch, so it\u2019s unclear whether the actor was trying to convince Berlanti to bring back specifically Smallville\u2019s Black Canary or just to have a role in the spin-off as a different character who had taken on the mantle of Black Canary in the Arrowverse.
