Late night host Stephen Colbert used his Emmy win to take a swipe at President Donald Trump <\/a>during his monologue on Tuesday\u2019s edition of \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Colbert took home the win <\/a>during the 77th Emmy Awards show<\/a> on Sunday just months after CBS announced it would be canceling \u201cThe Late Show\u201d in May 2026. Colbert celebrated his award during Tuesday\u2019s show, thanking his team and the audience before taking a jab at Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cMan, I\u2019m telling you\u2014we should\u2019ve gotten canceled years ago,” Colbert said at the beginning of his show before mocking Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cSpeaking of Emmys, Donald Trump doesn\u2019t have one,\u201d Colbert quipped.<\/p>\n For years, Trump has lamented that the Emmy Awards were \u201crigged\u201d because his show, \u201cThe Apprentice,\u201d never clinched the win. He often criticized the Emmy Awards show<\/a> in social media posts, including saying in 2012 that the show had \u201cno credibility.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Colbert\u2019s win marked the first time \u201cThe Late Show\u201d won the category despite being nominated numerous times over the years.<\/p>\n The win may have been the result of a protest vote and a desire to pay tribute to its host,<\/a> weeks after its cancellation by CBS. Jimmy Kimmel, who was among his competitors, campaigned for Colbert to win. <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cSometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it,\u201d Colbert said in his acceptance.<\/p>\n Many perceived the end of the show as punishment of Colbert and placation of President Donald Trump after Colbert was harshly critical of a legal settlement between the president and Paramount, which needed administration approval for a sale to Skydance Media.
