Reese Witherspoon<\/strong><\/a> revealed why David Fincher didn\u2019t cast her<\/strong> for the lead role in Gone Girl<\/strong><\/a>. Despite the book\u2019s author wanting Witherspoon to be in it, Fincher refused to cast her for a very simple reason.<\/p>\n Directed by David Fincher, Gone Girl is a psychological thriller based on Gillian Flynn\u2019s novel of the same name. The movie featured Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in the lead roles. While Reese Witherspoon didn\u2019t star in it, she produced the film under her production company, Pacific Standard, which later became Hello Sunshine.<\/p>\n During Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang\u2019s podcast, Las Culturistas<\/a>, Witherspoon revealed that she was supposed to be in the film. She said, \u201cI was supposed to star in it.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Fincher disagreed. Recalling her conversation with Fincher, she said, \u201cDavid sat me down, and this is not on David, but David\u2019s like, \u2018You\u2019re totally wrong for this part, and I\u2019m not putting you in it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Academy Award-winning actress also shared that she had conversations with the author about the movie. \u201cI\u2019d had all these conversations with the writer, Gillian Flynn, and she was like, \u2018No, I\u2019d really like you to do it,\u2019\u201d she shared. \u201cBut [David] was like, \u2018You\u2019re wrong.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The 49-year-old actress recalled how she felt during that moment. \u201cThat was, first of all, an ego check for me. I was like, \u2018No, you\u2019re not right for everything,\u2019\u201d she revealed. \u201cAnd he was right. He was totally right,\u201d she added, admittedly.<\/p>\n The Big Little Lies star explained that she realized what her role as producer should be. \u201cProducing also means get out of the way when you\u2019re supposed to, you know, get out of the way,\u201d she explained. \u201cDo your job to promote. Continue to pull people together. Continue to build creative groups so that the ultimate result is the best work that it could possibly be. So that was a lesson to me,\u201d the actress shared.<\/p>\n Witherspoon also appreciated Pike\u2019s performance, \u201cRosamund is perfect [in the movie].\u201d<\/p>\n The movie was successful in terms of both reception and box office collection.
